In 1892, Bentonville became the first city in Arkansas to adopt a handgun ordinance. The ordinance was designed to prevent crime by keeping handguns out of the hands of criminals. At that time, firearms were not considered common items in Arkansas and so it wasn't until after the NRA's creation in 1871 that firearms began being regularly shown on city walls and police cars. The NRA's first firearms exhibition took place in Bentonville in 1898. In 1907, the organization created its own museum which still exists today. The museum features exhibits on firearm history from around the world as well as local memorabilia from Bentonville's past. Today, there are over 2,000 organizations who have endorsed the NRA including over 400 gun stores across America. Gun shows take place throughout the year at various locations in Bentonville with an average of 50 exhibitors per show.

The post-war boom slowed down during the early 21st century as economic recession hit southern Arkansas hard. However, recent years have seen growth for Bentonville with new businesses opening up and housing developments being built downtown. Bentonville has two high schools - Big Spring High School which serves students from pre-K through 12th grades and Northwest Arkansas Community College which offers certificates and graduate degrees in various fields including business, law, health science, engineering, education/offices management and healthcare administration. There are also several private schools in the area including Grange School (grades K-12), Central Park Christian Academy (grades 1-6), St Francis de Sales Catholic school (ages 7-12) and Mount Carmel Lutheran Church (ages 13+) which serve children from pre-school through grade 8thgrade

Many of these businesses are still in operation today; examples include Walmart (), Safeway (), Kroger (), Dollar Tree (), Publix () & Meijer (). One of Bentonville's most famous landmarks is the Masonic Lodge building which still stands today (it was auctioned off in 1990). The lodge served as the community center until it burned down in 1933. Additionally, another prominent landmark is the old courthouse which still stands today (it was built between 1891-1893). This courthouse played an important role during Arkansas' early days as it helped regulate land ownership and provided justice within the community].
