Benton is a town in south-central Arkansas, United States. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. Benton is the county seat of Robeson County. It is adjacent to Beardstown, Illinois, and Little Rock, Arkansas. The first settlement in what would become Benton was made on June 12, 1824 by David Benton and his brother John; it was near present day Arkadelphia. The first store in what would become Benton was built by Elias Granger in 1827. In 1830, James Fenton purchased the land that now includes downtown Benton from David Benton for $4 per acre. In 1835, Elijah Holmes opened the first post office in what would become Benton. The town received its name from General Nathaniel Banks's brigade who were moving through Arkansas during the Mexican–American War and stopped at nearby Fort Smith to rest their horses before continuing on their march northward. On January 1st of each year since 1870 (except for one year due to World War II), which has been known as "National Automobile Day", a parade will travel down Main Street in downtown Benton celebrating automotive innovation and progress throughout history!

William Benton arrived in Arkansas from Kentucky circa 1836, while his brother James went overland from Tennessee around that same year. Soon after their arrival, they set out to build a ranchosotry along what is now State Route 66 outside of present-day Little Rock. William’s Rancho San Antonio was the first place white men SETTLED IN THE AREA THAT WELL NOW BELONG TO ARKANSAS! This area was then known as Indian Land or “The Prairie” because there wasn’t ANY forest HERE back then! But we did have bullfrogs (a type of frog) back then so we figured that MUST have been some kind of tree or something cause all those settlers started building houses on top OF IT huge man made structures still standing today! Anyway They Named It Wm Bntnrd & Jame Cowan subdivided this land between them & these dudes named themselves PIONEERS!! So our father built himself a house here about 1840 & started raising crops! Factory farming didn’t start until AFTER he got here tho probably because BACK THEN THERE WAS NO SUBDIVISION SYSTEM DATED NOR DID MAN KNOW HOW TO KEEP HIS FRUITS FROM RUNNING OUT SO HE BUILT A FACTORY RIGHT BEFORE HE MOVED HERE!!! Now if you go down into that old part of town now you can see all those factories because they LINE UP LANDSCAPES RIGHT BELOW WHERE THEY MADE THEIR PRODUCING OPERATIONS!!! Our dad also had this big coal mine dug up right near where he lived too so no one ever really knows how things started BUT I GUESS IT ALL STARTED WITH HIM MAKING ROADS FOR CATTLE DOWN TO THE COAL MINES LOL
