Benton, Arkansas is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 5,573 at the 2010 census. Benton is the county seat and largest city of Pulaski County. It is also the location of Arvest Bank, one of the largest banks in Arkansas. The first people to live in Benton were natives of Russia who came to what is now Benton in 1822 when it was still part of Mexico City territory. The founder of Benton was Alexander McLendon, a cotton planter from Tennessee who arrived in 1824 and set up his plantation near what is now downtown Benton. In 1830 McLendon married Susannah McCoy (née Griggs), daughter of General David McCoy, an officer on American forces that fought Mexican forces during the Mexican-American War. In 1836 McClendon sold his plantation to Major General Israel Pemberton for $5,000 cash. Pemberton named his new settlement "Benton" after himself and donated land for a courthouse and schoolhouse which he built on the site of today's arena complex north side Main Street and east side First Avenue. In 1840 Pemberton moved his headquarters from Mexico City to Benton where he began managing American Colonization Company plantations along the Arkansas River Valley between Russellville and Little Rock. In 1847 Hernando de Soto discovered new oil fields in Texas but no wells were found in Arkansas until 1850 when two men working for John Tilton drilled a well at what is now known as "Pine Point." This discovery led to increased oil exploration over time throughout much of North America including Arkansas with major findings by Isaac Asimov off jacksonville Beach Drive south side main street before he founded Asimov Oil & Gas company later renamed ExxonMobil Corporation following its acquisition by Mobil Corporation As World War I approached there was an increasing demand for munitions across all sectors so President Woodrow Wilson made decisions that would transform not only America but also Arkansas with enactment of National Defense Act (1916) which established US Army postatts throughout most if not all U States creating an ever expanding federal government presence even within state borders With prohibitionists gaining controlanol states like Oklahoma enacted into law laws making it illegal to possess or sell alcoholic beverages manslaughter became a felony punishable by five years imprisonment while driving without a license became a misdemeanor punishable by one year imprisonment

Benton, Arkansas is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. It was founded in 1881 and named for Major General John Benton. The population was 2,664 at the 2010 census[1]. The first post office in Benton was established on November 14, 1881. The community of Bentonville was established in 1903. The present day Benton village was platted in 1909. In 1916 the name of the town changed to honor General John A. Pulaski who had been mortally wounded while fighting with Confederate forces during the American Civil War. At that time there were only a few hundred residents living in Bentonville and most people lived near Fort Smith or Lawrenceburg which were both larger towns at that time. In 1940 when World War II began General Pulaski's grandson moved his family to Bentonville and took over as Mayor. The City Council gave him the power to make all decisions for the city including taxes and zoning laws without going through the Governor's office which was then located at Topeka Kansas under President Franklin D Roosevelt! During World War II many military families also moved into Bentonville from other parts of Arkansas so it quickly became one of the most heavily populated areas in Pulaski County with more than 10% of its population being military personnel! After war ended many veterans returned home and their children continued to move into Bendonville until it had a population of less than 10 individuals again by 1960! Today much of what once made up Bentonville has been developed into new neighborhoods such as Westside Place, River Oaks subdivision and Park Hills subdivision which are all very popular with retirees from neighboring cities such as Little Rock, Ft Worth TX and Memphis TN!
The first Benton, Arkansas post office was established on January 1, 1864. The town of Benton was founded by a group of settlers led by Reverend James W. Hartley. The community was named for General John C. Butler, who had helped lead the Union army in the American Civil War.
