Benton, Arkansas is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 7,694 at the 2010 census. Benton is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Islip, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Benton" comes from a bend in theArkansas River that forms its eastern border. The river's course makes this bend once every 100 miles (160 km). The first settler in what became Benton was James Fenton in 1836. He and his family moved to what is now Benton from Nauvoo, Illinois. Fenton had heard about a place called Arkadelphia (near modern day Springfield) where he thought people could get water without having to go too far away. When he arrived there, he found that it was already inhabited by Native Americans and his claim to the land proved fruitless. In 1838-39 Fenton sold his interest in the town to John Dolan for $2 per acre ($27 per km²). Dolan donated most of the town site east of Broadway and north of High Street to create what is now downtown Benton. 4 years later on November 5th 1846, James Hays settled here with 10 others asatter settlers who left Independence Landing on the Arkansas River just upstream from present day Benton Creek Bridge which led into Little Rock then on downriver until they reached Fort Smith where they turned back home due to bad weather conditions; hays' wagon hit an obstruction while traveling downriver and both men were killed instantly when their cart overturned 4 miles downstream near today's dam across Mill Springs Creek known as High Bridge crossing today's State Highway 318 just south of mile marker 1508 North Dakota Territory line

Benton, Arkansas is a town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,759 at the 2000 census. It is the smallest city in Pulaski County and has the second-smallest population of any municipality in Arkansas. As of the 2010 census Benton had a total area of 0.5 square miles (1 km²). The history of Benton began with settlers who arrived in 1871 from Missouri. A post office was first established in Benton on January 12, 1872. In 1901, it was moved to its present location just east of downtown by order of then-Governor Orval Faubus. At that time Benton had a population of only 100 people and consisted solely of two frame buildings on Main Street which served as stores and hotel rooms for local merchants during the early years following World War I when Benton's main economic base was agriculture. In 1922, an electric light plant became operational within town limits and soon became an important factor in growth as business boomed around the plant due to increased traffic generated by stagecoaches travelling between Little Rock and Fort Smith along Interstate 40 which passed through town route
Benton was founded in 1872 by James Benton and his wife. It is the seat of Benton County, Arkansas. The county has a population of around 137,000 people.
