Benton, Arkansas is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 8,539 at the 2010 census. Benton is the county seat of Pulaski County. It is part of the Memphis–Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers in Benton were James Hinton and his family who arrived in 1820. They named their land "Benton" after their friend and neighbor John Benton of Kentucky. The first post office was established in Benton on December 1, 1840 by Jesse Wetherington with the name "Hintonville". In 1851, J.W. Tryon opened a store here and named it "Tryon's Store". Tryon served as mayor of Benton from 1859 to 1861 and 1870 to 1871. He also donated land for a courthouse on which the current courthouse stands today. In 1865, General William Tiptree took command of Union forces during the American Civil War and ordered him to move westward towards Memphis so that he could reinforce General Ulysses S Grant's army attacking Confederate forces under Robert E Lee near Richmond Virginia Beach Maryland . As part of this order Tiptree ordered his men to burn any stores they found in Benton while destroying all houses within a two-mile radius including those built before 1830 when there were no white residents living hereabouts! This event led to what is now known as the "Tiptree Fire" which destroyed much property in what is now downtown Benton with only a few buildings remaining standing today due to arson over 100 years ago! In 1920 local resident Norris Langston put up an effort to have this event recognized by UNESCO as an International Heritage Site however it never happened because at that time Arkansas statehood wasn't granted until 1907! Today much of what was destroyed during that fire still remains sadly heartbrokenly unfulfilled... but some new life has begun again with redevelopment efforts surrounding both the old brick school building located on Main Street (now home to many businesses) as well as nearby Town Lake where several restaurants/bars are located today thanks largely to new investors who have stepped up since then! currently hosting its annual 4 day agricultural show/festival each spring/summer called 'The Festival' which attracts many tourists from all over Southern Arkansas plus plenty of locals too!

Benton is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,574. It is the most populous incorporated community in Pulaski County and one of the largest towns in north Arkansas. The first settlers to Benton were white men who came from Illinois in 1836. They named their new settlement after James Mize Benton, an agriculturalist and senator from Missouri who had served as a U.S. minister to Russia during the time of Andrew Jackson. The town was founded on March 3, 1838 by Jethro Gibbs and his family. The first post office was established in Benton on April 15, 1838 by David Stephenson service with the US Postal Service. In 1839–1840, Benton became home to a school for black children operated by Methodist missionaries under the guidance of Reverend John Sibley and Revillard Ingrams (founder of Arkadelphia). This school eventually replaced an earlier white school that had been destroyed by a fire; however, it reopened on October 20th 1840 with 156 students and taught by African Americans while whites attended class at Arkadelphia School District #2 which was located two miles away across Main Street from the new school buildings. In 1840–1841 there also existed a cotton gin near what is now known as downtown Benton where raw cotton was processed into finished products such as ginseng tea and cigars before being exported to Europe or America for retail sale In 1847–1848 local farmers banded together to form what is known today asthe Arkansas Valley Railroad Company which secured passage for freight cars loaded with produce from Great Bend Prairie outside Little Rock along what is now US-Route 464
Benton was founded in 1821 by John Benton and his family. It became a city in 1907, after the Unincorporated Village of Benton merged with the city. The population of Benton increased from 1,500 in 1901 to over 20,000 by 1910. In 1925, the Arkansas legislature passed a bill annexing Benton to Little Rock.
