Benton, Arkansas is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 922 at the 2000 census. Benton is located on the eastern edge of the county along U.S. Route 191. It lies east of Little Rock and west of Fayetteville. The first settler in Benton was Thomaston Capps who arrived in 1827 and settled on a farm southeast of the town today known as Farmington Road. William Waddell also settled in Benton about this time and had two stores and four families living there before he died in 1875. In 1881 John Fenton bought land northeast of Benton from Thomas Allgood for $2,000 dollars and began to build a gristmill which would later be called the Allgood Mill Building still standing today within sight of the present day courthouse across US 191 from which it takes its name. In 1902-1903 Ayscough Boot & Leather Co., a shoe store, opened up shop on Main Street just north of Court House Square with five employees including Jeptha Henson who became vice president after moving to Benton from Jacksonville, Florida that year - an early example of what would become known as small business entrepreneurship hereabouts. A new post office was established at Benton in 1903 under mail order service by P D Henschel (1868-1940) who operated out of his house on Main Street until his death in 1940; then Mrs Henschel took over until 1948 when Mail Order World closed its doors due to heavy competition from larger companies such as Sears Roebuck & Co., Kress Cartridge Company etcetera during the postwar period (see history section below). Thereafter mail order services were conducted manually by various individuals until 1974 when ZIP code 82002 became available for delivery via First Class Mail with internet access becoming increasingly popular among residents throughout this era; however Postal Service consolidation soon followed ensuing nationally mandated changes culminating with Today's Harvester Inc.'s acquisition by USPS during 2006 which eliminated all but one aspect(faxing) of mail order services nationwide thereby terminating centuries old rural community spirit golden opportunity! According to the 2010 census, there are now only 704 people living in Bentontownship proper making it one percent smaller than it once was However even though its size has decreased somewhat since last censuses were taken nearly seventy years ago there has never been an official move away from farming or ranching practices much like neighbouring towns such as Van Buren (population 2161), Siloam Springs (2148), Arkadelphia (2062), Jonesboro (2254), Rogersville (2309) etc have all experienced similar decreases despite their larger populations yet none have abandoned their agricultural roots completely like Benton has done seemingly overnight seeming more concerned with preserving historicaladrural character than expanding into adjacent neighbourhoods/urban areas/jobsites...
There have been many types and designs of gun barrels. The oldest type was the trumpet barrel, which consisted of a metal tube with a hole in the middle. The gas passed through the hole and out the other end of the tube. A later design was called a 'hornet's nest' because it had two horns on either side of the bore that could be used to control shot placement. The first firearms were muzzle loading guns, which fired arrows by means of an air-filled nozzle at one end of a longbow or crossbow string. Gun barrels were designed to hold more ammunition than arrow barrels, so that they could be used for handguns such as pistols and rifles. The first firearms were built with flintlock mechanisms, which used Flintlock cartridges filled with powder and stored in shortcases (or cases). These firearms would be unloaded and placed in a holster while someone else practiced shooting them. Benton is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,996 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area. Benton was founded in 1871 by James Fenton and his wife Mary (née Rice). The town name comes from the bend in the creek that runs through it. The first post office in Benton was established on July 9, 1872, by Wm. H. Gardner and Job Purdy. In 1876, Harry Jernigan installed a water pump to bring water to the community from a well nearby. The community's first school was built on what is now Main Street in 1876-77 by Simeon Herndon and John Dickson. In 1880, Benton had two stores and one grocery store; there were also two blacksmiths and three wagonmakers active in the town during this time period. In 1902, Benton had four churches: First Baptist church (established 1865), Methodist church (1875), Presbyterian church (1881), and Pentecostal church (1892). In 1916, when Pulaski County became an all-county municipality, Benton lost its status as a separate village because it lay within North Little Rock Township which then included much of north Arkansas including Muchmore City or Monticello as well as parts of Arkadelphia and Fairview Springs communities – both located south of present day Benton on US 61/Arkansas Highway 281/Arkansas Highway 95 corridor east of White River Valley Reservoir Road). However still sparsely populated with only around 100 residents during 1916 census count – even after becoming an all-county municipality – local officials decided to name their new community "Benton" for James Fenton who had donated land for its establishment including access to Chisholm Creek running through it which served as its municipal boundary until 1959 when that boundary changed too following annexation by North Little Rock Township which includes much of north Arkansas adjacent to present day Fort Smith city limit extending into southwest Arkansas beyond present day Walnut Ridge Cemetery Lots 1 through 4 inclusive) On December 15th 1928 physical plant expansion completed at current site of old brick clinic building across road from Post Office & general store - today known as Old State House Museum
In the early 1800s, Benton was a small town in northern Arkansas. It was home to a population of about 100 people and had two schools and one sawmill. The first post office in Benton was established in 1825. The town grew rapidly during the mid-19th century, thanks to its location at the crossroads of several wagon routes and its position as a stop on the Underground Railroad. By 1870, Benton had more than 1,000 residents and it boasted a railroad depot, three stores, four blacksmiths, two churches, and a school. In 1881, Benton became the seat of government for Union County when that county was created from parts of Pulaski County. In 1901, Benton lost its status as an incorporated community when it merged with nearby Decaturville into what is now called Decatur Township.
