Benton, Arkansas is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 3,913 at the 2010 census. Benton is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–South Little Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. Benton is named after Alexander Benton, an early settler in the area. The first post office was established in 1873, and Benton became a city in 1906. It lost its status as a city in 1971 but has regained it since then. The community of Benton was founded by Methodist missionaries on July 4th, 1867. They built a store and religious school there while they were traveling through the area looking for new land to settle. The first white child born in Benton was born to Addie and John Cook on December 12th of that year. That same year also saw the founding of the First Baptist Church which lasted until 1916 when it merged with another church to form First Baptist SouthernArkansas Incorporated In 1911, Drury College opened its doors here with classes starting September 9th through November 6th. In 1915-16 local farmers organized what would become known as the Cotton Gin League which fought against taxes levied by state government on cotton gin receipts fromexportations to other states On October 14th 1916 citizens of Benton voted not to ratify the Fourteenth Amendment giving black Americans full citizenship rights In 1924-25 oil exploration began near town limits and production continued until 1959 when it stopped due to environmental concerns As industrial activity declined throughout Arkansas during the late 20th century many people left town for greener pastures or moved away altogether During this time few buildings were erected or maintained around town center due to less money available for such things . However over time some significant infrastructure projects have been completed such as resurfacing roads within town limits and building a new library which opened its doors on April 1st 2006

Benton, Arkansas is a small town in south-central Arkansas. It is the seat of Benton County and lies on the eastern edge of the Arkadelphia Plateau. The population was 7,871 at the 2010 census. The first people to live in what is now Benton County were members of the Wichita and Comanche Tribes. In 1825, James Fenton founded a trading post near present day Bentonville. By 1830, many settlers had arrived in what became Benton County from Missouri and Illinois. In 1834, Major General John C. Frémont established Fort Laramie in present day Bentonville to protect wagon trains traveling between Kansas City and St Louis from Indian attacks. In 1881, Brigham Young founded The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS church) here in what would become Bentonville. At that time, there were only a few dozen LDS followers living in Arkansas; however, by 1900 there were over 120 thousand Mormons living in all 50 United States! The LDS church has continuously built churches and temples here ever since! In 1904, pioneer Hyrum Smith organized the first school district in Benton County with 12 students! Today’s schools are part of the USD 501(c)(3) National Education Association (NEA). On July 6th 1898 an act was passed by the Arkansas General Assembly recognize Blandford as an incorporated village within this state! This event marked the commencement of development for what would become today’s town of Bentonville!
Benton was founded in 1836 by James W. Benton, a white man and center of the Arkansas Territory. The town was named for John C. Benton, a prominent pioneer from Kentucky who had settled in southern Arkansas. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Benton sided with the Confederacy and became an important military and economic hub for the region. After the war, Benton slowly regained its former prominence as a commercial center and rural community until it lost its status as a major city after World War II. Today, Benton is an agricultural community located northeast of Little Rock on I-40.
