It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Amarillo, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bella Vista was platted in 1881 and named for Lilla Belle Vestal—a niece ofArkansas Governor John Evans. The first post office in Bella Vista was established on December 21, 1881. The name change to Bella Vista in 1885 when it became apparent that no other settlement would be founded with the same name. In 1910, the county seat of Pulaski County shifted from Bentonville to Bella Vista. At that time, there were only a few villages within Pulaski County and most residents lived outside of the county limits; therefore, there was little need for a county seat. The growth of the industrious Arkansan during this century brought new opportunities and businesses to Bella Vista; many small shops and businesses sprouted up throughout what had once been an agricultural region sparsely populated by whites except for occasional farmers who managed their own land or rented from others. By 1920, much of what had once been rural farmland had been transformed into city-dwelling neighborhoods complete with politebutopinionated blacksmiths and cobbler shops selling high-quality shoes because white people could not afford them; these areas are now known as Old Town and North Old Town respectively. Although many Arkansans active during World War II chose to remain in Arkansas or fight overseas instead of returning home (many did so voluntarily due to discrimination against soldiers returning home), some business owners decided that war production might bring more customers than normal sales Could they stay open? After all, if they closed their doors now things wouldn't be very different then they were before Pearl Harbor (1911). So they reopened after 1945 but went out of business again by 1960 due mainly to inflationary forces rather then World War II related factors like military spending which increased constantly especially after1945
