King developed the first gun target in Bella Vista when they purchased a 100-acre parcel of land on which to site it. The target became an important part of community life and was used for firing practice by both men and women. The name “Bella Vista” is derived from the old Mexican word meaning “target shootin’ ground” because this spot was where many such shooting matches were held before settlers moved in and began using real estate as homes. In 1926, the Arkansas Gun Owners Association (AGOA) was formed in Bella Vista to promote firearms ownership and education among Arkansans. AGOA soon began conducting monthly target shootings at rifle range across the state capital, Little Rock, with support from local businesses and individuals. Beginning in 1931, AGOA sponsored annual national firearmShow at the Fairgrounds in Little Rock which attracted tens of thousands of visitors who enjoyed exhibits, music, games and shooting competitions/matches between rifle teams from around the country. The early days of gun targets coincided with a time when guns were still seen as primarily law enforcement tools rather than personal weapons that could be used without fear of legal action or retribution. As society changed, so too didgun targets: over time they became popular items for recreational shooters as well as competition shooters looking to make some real money off their skills! In Bella Vista, Arkansas, the town's history can be traced back to 1879. The community was located in what is now Springdale County and was founded by white settlers who were looking for a place to live free from African Americans. By 1881, the population of Bella Vista had grown to around 100 people and it began to develop into a small town. In 1912, the first post office was opened in Bella Vista and until World War II, it served as the only local service. In 1943, the military moved troops barracks from Fort Smith to Bella Vista after the war ended and keep them there until 1946 when they left for Goodsprings. From 1946-1963, all services were provided by the same post office which was renamed after General James A. Van Dorn during his time as Commanding Officer at Fort Smith (1964-1965). Bella Vista experienced some growth during its early years but soon started to decline due to numerous factors including prohibition which hit the area hard; lack of education opportunities for residents; and an overall decline in economic activity throughout Arkansas during that time period. However, things began to change in 1978 when a group of developers bought up lots in town and started construction on what would become known as "The Strip." This development brought new life to the community while also increasing tourism activity which helped revive it over time. Today, Bella Vista remains an important part of Springsdale County with its rich history and thriving economy.

It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conway, AR metropolitan area and is included in the Arkansas State Capitol District. Founded in 1902 as a post office and general store by Baptist missionaries named Addison and Lydia Putnam, Bella Vista became an agricultural center with corn, cotton, soybeans, alfalfa, cattle and hogs raised there. In 1927 it became a town when the white residents of nearby Arkadelphia moved to its core. In 2009-10 Bella Vista had fallen behind other Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway towns in terms of job growth; however Mayor Joe Woods attributed this to a lack of economic development opportunities for women outside of agriculture due to lack of business investment or access to capital from outside sources. He called for more government investment in businesses such as transportation infrastructure development that would facilitate trade between adjacent municipalities and bring more jobs into Bella Vista's economy; he also discussed plans for additional funding for community arts programs which would support local economies through creation of new jobs within the arts industry. Despite these efforts Town Councilwoman Peg Havens agreed that "something needs to be done" about increasing cultural diversity within Bella Vista despite her reservations about increased government investments that might not result in tangible benefits for her constituents

In recent years, Bella Vista has seen slowing growth due to competition from larger cities such as Little Rock and Arkadelphia in north-central Pulaski County and due to increasing development pressures within its borders from nearby towns such as White Sulphur Springs, Bryant City, Jonesboro, Clinton City Center, Rogers Field State Park,and even Fort Smith which have all started Topping Out Development projects that have forcedrevitalization of Bella Vista's infrastructure including an expansion of Interstate 30 eastward through town which has led to increased traffic congestion on local streets while simultaneously threatening some of the original businesses and homes along Main Street
