Bella Vista is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1881 and incorporated in 1903. Bella Vista is located on the Arkansas River near its confluence with the Colorado River. The river forms the eastern border of Bella Vista and provides water to most of its residents. The first settler in Bella Vista was C.W. Henton, who arrived in 1881. He built a log cabin near what is now Main Street and named it after his daughter Bella Vista (later known as "Bella" by locals). Henton's cabin remained standing until 1938 when it was destroyed by fire. In 1903, Alice Jernigan donated land to form what would become known as "Belle Vista". She had married a man from Ozona, Iowa, named John Bellewis and settled there with her children before moving to Pulaski County two years earlier to take up land that she had bought from James Fenton for $1 million dollars ($ today). At first, Bellewis considered naming his new town after himself – but decided against it because he felt that people would confuse him with another pioneer nameakes such as Billings or Topeka (Kansas). Bellewis did not live to see his original town renamed – he passed away suddenly while on vacation in Mexico City several months before incorporation occurred; however, his wife did receive credit for creating Bella Vista among other namesakes later given to towns within Pulaski County such as North Little Rock and Westminister ( Connecticut ). He left behind an extensive legacy which has continued into present day: many of the businesses found throughout the area today were started during or shortly after his death including A&P grocery store, Waffle House restaurant/cafeteria and post office building still stand today! Today's downtown core of Bellvista contains numerous small businesses Downtown style restaurants are few but far between due largely to Interstate 25 being situated just outside of town limits
In 1871, a group of businessmen from New Orleans purchased land near Bella Vista in what is now Arkansas. The town was named for the then-new Bella Vista Hotel which opened in 1872. The town quickly grew and by 1907, it had a population of 1,200 people. By 1920, the population had grown to 3,000 and by 1930, it had reached 5,000 people. In 1941 the town passed into state control and became known as Bella Vista State Park.
