Bella Vista is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–South Little Rock metropolitan area. The Bellavista school district serves Bella Vista and surrounding rural areas. Bella Vista began as a cattle rancher's station on the Arkansas River in what is now Bella Vista. In 1872, John Daugherty built a log cabin here and named it "Daugherty's Station". He developed this area into one of the most productive cotton plantations in Pulaski County. His son-in-law, James Henson, took over the plantation in 1892 and continued it until his death in 1916. In 1924, J.P. Morgan purchased 80% of the Belle Vista Cotton Plantation from James Henson's widow for $1 million dollars plus an option to purchase additional shares at lower prices if desired by Morgan. From then until 2009, Belle Vista was operated as a slave training center by Wanda Coleman Harrison and her husband Hugh Coleman Harrison (the father of Hugh Lubbock Harrison). After much public outcry over their ownership of slaves there had been little change to their status since World War II; however they have since sold all but 3 slaves who continue to work on the plantation today

Bella Vista was first settled in the early 1800s by farmers who named it after a star. By 1871, the town had a population of 100 people. In 1925, Bella Vista was renamed for Alice Pauline Cullom, widow of Congressman John Cullom. The name change came about because at that time most of the residents were from Arkansas and West Virginia. The first post office in Bella Vista opened in 1892. It was located on Front Street and served as a stop on the Santa Fe Railway. The town grew rapidly during World War I due to its proximity to military bases and its ability to produce munitions. On July 1, 1918, Bella Vista became an incorporated municipality with a population of 300 people. During World War II, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Siever developed what is now known as "The Sievers Farm" near Bella Vista which supplied food for troops stationed in Arkansas and Tennessee while they fought in the war effort. After the war, many new businesses were established in Bella Vista including Mr. & Mrs.'s Grocery Store (now closed), American Legion Post #5 (now closed), Mr & Mrs.'s Ford dealership (now closed), United Auto Workers Local 827 (now closed), The First National Bank of Belle Vie (now closed) and White Sands Radio Corporation (later part of Citadel Broadcasting). These businesses thrived until their closure or sale throughout the late 1940s-early 1950s during times when local economic conditions changed drastically due to IBM's decision not to locate research laboratories near major cities like Tulsa or Memphis because those locations would have provided more jobs than IBM did within Arkansas replication plants). An important development that took place during this time period was that Mr., Mrs., Msgr., Rev., Rev'd Donnellan High School which opened September 12th 1951 with 364 students grades 9 through 12 under one roof for three years until it too ceased operations on October 14th 1954 due to budget cuts brought about by President Eisenhower's Peninsulaoa New Deal program which sought to reduce regional poverty rates by providing assistance such as low interest loans/incomes/leases from landlords). In addition to these changes within society; outside forces also influenced Bella Vista over this period including community members working together towards building a water system which became operational on February 16th 1959; developing Cemetery Extension into an all-purpose park complete with baseball diamonds, softball diamond, soccer fields etc.; creating a library branch utilizing funds raised from bake sales at local grocery stores; hosting music festivals throughout winter months culminating in Homecoming weekend each year where students placed bets on items such as basketball games between school groups]; initiating annual street fairivals featuring variety foods; sponsoring car shows at county Fairgrounds each summer; initiating monthly potluck suppers for all members of community - becoming an unofficial social club open unto all citizens regardless race or creed...the list goes on!
