It also helped increase warfare because it gave commanders more control over their troops. By 1861, ballistae had become common in most armies and they began being used in battles all around the world.

The first people to live in Bella Vista were the Boones and their children who came from Maine in 1866. In 1892, Augustus Fenton founded the Fenton Manufacturing Company which made saddles and other horse equipment. In 1902, John Biegler and his family settled here and started a grocery store. In 1924, Harry Hargrave opened a clothing store in Bella Vista which became one of the most successful stores in Arkansas until it closed its doors in 1984. In 1951, Bellvista Elementary School was built on present-day Elm Street in Bella Vista by Mrs. Wanda Aiken and her husband Rollin Dillard Jr.. It operated for over fifty years until it was replaced by Girls Academy (now White Hall) School in 1998 which still operates today as one of Arkansas' leading elementary schools. In 1957, two blocks east of Bella Vista on Elm Street was founded Piney Ridge Baptist Church with Reverend Joeseph Copley as its first pastor. The building that now houses Piney Ridge Baptist Church was built near where Elm Street meets Main Street in 1954 by Mr. Clyde Browning with funds provided by Mrs.(Doris?) Laddington whose son Clyde served as mayor of Bella Vista from 1977 to 1981 when he unsuccessfully ran for governor against ARKANSAS SENATOR CHARLES POWELL JR.–a real life hero who had given many speeches throughout the state denouncing communism running rampant during these years while he lived inside Moscow Kremlin!) In 1965 Carlisle High School opened its doors to students after serving as an all-girls school for several years known as Bellefontaine High School before being renamed Carlisle Junior/Senior High School following construction of adjacent buildings housing both grades within minutes walking distance from each other making this one of only a few high school systems located so close together! As one might expect from such an arrangement there were always some mischiefmakers among our students but overall things went just about according to plan until eventually (early 2003) due to funding cuts brought about by then Governor Mike Huckabee via Executive Order 6346 which significantly changed how public education spending is administered within our state Highlights Of Our History AtCarlisleHighSchool: malamute mascot created 1962; girls soccer team won State Championships 1990 & 1992; 4x All Star Band played at State championships 1982 & 1984; pep rally held annually during homecoming week 3/29/93; Artichoke Dip Contest held yearly during Homecoming Week
