One historian has written that Arkadelphia "was one of many small towns throughout central Arkansas which prospered during prohibition because it could provide employment for bootlegging Prohibition agents." In 1933, when Franklin D Roosevelt became President of America, he ordered most all private businesses closed by Executive Order No. 9064%. This order eliminated most jobs in Arkansas so local governments could focus on providing essential services such as education and welfare to their citizens. Arkadelphia's economy quickly recovered thanks to government support including money from federal taxes collected from alcohol sales and other vehicles used in illegal liquor sales. In recent years Arkadelphia has seen increased development due to its strategic location on I-40 just outside Little Rock; Its growing population has led to more businesses opening up shop within reach of residents; as well as contributions from both locals and tourists who often visit nearby attractions like Mount Rushmore National Monument or Downtown Little Rock for nightlife or shopping opportunities

It began as a post office on December 12, 1881, and grew slowly until it became a small town with a population of about 2,000 in 1950. The growth of Arkadelphia was due to its location: it is just south of Little Rock and within easy commuting distance of both Memphis and Arkansas City. The first settlers in what would become Arkadelphia were white men who arrived from Illinois during the 1830s. By 1840 they had built a log cabin on the banks of the Arkansas River. They soon outgrew their home and moved to what is now known as Little Rock where they started another log cabin on the bank of White River. In 1845 Isaac Waddell established what would become Arkadelphia Post Office with his brother-in-law Asahel Sells as mail carrier. Waddell named his new community after John Quincy Adams, one of America's most famous Ulysses S Grant presidents and members of Congress from Massachusetts. The post office served as an important link between eastern Arkansas and western Missouri for many years before being discontinued in 1909 when Little Rock became an independent city under state control. During World War II Arkadelphia was one of several towns located along I-40 which functioned as an air base for military aircraft flying into Baghdad Air Force Base outside Baghdad, Iraq during that time period (1941 - 1945). Arklington went through some changes following its incorporation into Pulaski County on November 1, 1954; these changes included increasing its size by adding land eastward from Main Street including present day Veterans Memorial Park off US Highway 95A near Old Fort Road ( concurrent with neighbouring Springdale). Incorporation also added six businesses to the mix including two general stores (one owned by Jeptha Henson), four churches (all Baptist) and three garage/hardware stores operated by brothers Jack & Harry McCullough Sr., Dick & Donny McCullough & siblings Norma & Leslee McCullough all located along West Main Street between Second Avenue & Third Street across from Mabelle’s restaurant; these establishments remain part of Arklington today while other businesses relocated or closed over time such as Joe’s Pizza which vacated its original location next door to Mabelle’s opposite State High School at 255 West Main Street prior to closure in 1996; this move occurred amidst much discussion about how best to handle economic development given that Middle Tennessee had been struggling jobless rates for months leading up to that event In recent years there has been significant redevelopment taking place around town center including demolition/ reconstructionof most existing buildings dating back over 100 years including 201 West Main Street formerly known as “Old Courthouse Place” which once housed Judge David Bowers Hardware Store (& more) followed by expansion/renovations including constructionof three new blocks bounded by First Ave., Third Ave., South Broadway Avenue (& parking lot) totaling 423 feet long starting at First Ave./Third Ave.; this project includes demolition/constructionof six pre-existing buildings dating back over 100 years plus two new additions bringing total square footage within boundaries increased from 327 feet² ((original constructed area measuring 301 feet²)) using Federal funds available via Rural Economic Development Act categorical designation program created specifically forArkmontonians thru ARK Extension Service
