They developed effective methods of using hoses and other equipment against conflagrations which helped reduce losses caused by brush fires throughout northeastern Arizona during this time period. In 1911, Chamberlain was selected as head officer for extinguishing wildfires along the western edge of Tucson National Forest after years of testing methods used by other officials unsuccessfully trying to control these blazes. That same year saw another important development when Harry Golden founded what would become Camp Verde School District No.(P)1-1911 (today's Apache Junction). After more than 25 years of service as superintendent of school districts in southernArizona he retired at age 82 in 1958 with an undefeated record while serving all 83 school districts comprising Apache Valley School District including his old district one Alva Elementary School becoming his finalvindication after many years passed without recognition from government or public Officials
