In 1861, during the American Civil War, Confederate forces invaded Arizona and sacked Yuma; it remains one of the few places where Confederate troops stopped short on their march through the state. The town slowly recovered from this attack but continued to decline until around 1930 when it regained some importance due to its proximity to Phoenix and nearby Lake Havasu City (now Scottsdale). During World War II, many businesses within Yuma were destroyed or damaged by American bombers which made it difficult for them to continue operating despite being inside of war-time targets. However, most businesses reopened relatively quickly following the end of hostilities although there were some that suffered lasting damage such as a post office that remained closed for almost fifty years because of bombing damage sustained during the war period alone With increased tourism throughout Greater Phoenix since then however things have started going back up again including an increase in development nearby while also providing new jobs within local communities .Today there are over 20 business districts located throughout downtown with growing nightlife options as well as increasing job opportunities outside of downtown areas like agriculture/agricultural services etc
