Consequently, tension between Mexicans living outside of California and those stationed inside the Mexican province grew rapidly during this time period known as La Guerra de la Nación (the War Of The Nations). On November 15th 1847 commissioners appointed by Governor José Joaquín Alcalá y Gómez met at Ajoacoa near present-day Sells with representatives from all 26 Mexican provinces in order to negotiate peace treaties following Months of Combativity that had ensued since Santa Cruz Battalion had defeated Mexican forces at San Bernardino River Bridge on October 25th 1846 thus effectively ending The Mexican-American War aka: La guerra de los pueblos (The war of communities). This treaty resulted in land grants totaling 573 square miles (1,362 km2) which were divided among various claimants forming what would eventually become Southern Arizona Territory which comprised Mostofit Valley Valley centered around PRESIDIO VALLEY while NorthernArizona Territory comprised Buckeye Valley centered around TUSCANYAN MOUNTAIN National Monument with Presidio Villa included therein lying just east off US 101 & SOUTHERN AZON RIVER
