The Tucson shooting of February 14, 2014 left six people dead and three wounded. The gunman, Don Black, killed six people with a gun he had bought at a pawn shop. The gunman also injured three others before murdering himself. Immediately following the shootings, policies were put in place to reduce gun violence in Tucson. One such policy was the establishment of safe havens for victims and witnesses of gun shootings. Another policy was the deployment of officers to high-crime areas in order to increase security. Gun control has been an issue faced by many communities throughout America since the inception of the United States Constitution.Gun control is an important issue because it can prevent future tragedies like that seen in Tucson from happening again. It is hoped that policies instituted after the Tucson shooting will help make sure that this never happens again in Arizona or anywhere else in America.

After World War I ended with victory for Allied forces over Germany, Mexicans began streaming into Tucson again to fill jobs in new factories that were opening up across the country. In 1924, Proposition 227 passed by referendum giving all Mexicans living in Arizona voting rights; this led to an influx of Latinos into Tucson that continues to this day. Today's economy depends heavily on government services and business activity within Pima County; however there are also some very significant private sector businesses operating in downtown Tucson which have helped maintain overall economic growth since 1984 when downtown replaced miles-long arterials as primary commercial thoroughfares
