However, following the war, economic conditions deteriorated and development stalled; however, some new businesses have since reopened including a casino and several hospitals which have helped revive downtown areas around town. The current name of Surprise comes from a 1908 play called "The Three Musketeers" which starred Maurice Chevalier and played at the Globe Theatre in Chicago before moving to Philadelphia where it resumed production before finally returning to Chicago for its final performance on October 10th, 1908. After its run at the Globe Theatre, "TheThreeMusketeers" moved back east where it continued performances until early 1911 when it returned to Philadelphia again for another season before finally ending up in Chicago permanently that year as part of an unsuccessful effort by manager Arthur Laurents to keep it alive outside of New York City.[1] Although little is known about this play or about who originally wrote it for stage,[2] one possibility is that Maurice Chevalier himself wrote both act 1 (the story of César) and act 3 (the fight between Aramis and swashbuckler Rochefort). Although there are no surviving records or recordings from this time period verifying either assertion,[3] given that "The Three Musketeers" was relatively unknown outside of North America at this point,[4] suggests that this may indeed be true - if not for actions taken subsequent to Truman's visit which likely helped reintroduce "The Three Musketeers" into American popular culture nationally albeit without any connection back to Montreal or Canada whatsoever![5][6][7][8]
