Somerton is a small town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson metropolitan area. The Town of Somerton was founded in 1886 by Mormon settlers who had been drawn to this region by its natural resources and grazing opportunities. The first post office was established in 1888, and the first school was built in 1890. By 1912, there were six stores and one bank in the community. After World War I ended, Somerton began to experience increasing population growth as miners moved into the area for new mines and other businesses opened up. In 1920, a water system was constructed for the community which includes a main drain that provides water to both homes and businesses within the town limits; a canal also runs through downtown providing irrigation for agriculture; and an underground pipeline continues service until it reaches Spanish Fork outside of town limits. In 1954, Somerton incorporated as a village under State law number 511-2-A (the "Village Agreement"), with a population of seventy-two residents consisting of twenty-eight men and twenty-six women. Although continuing to grow slowly during much of the late 20th century due mainly to lack of industrial development in this vicinity – including several dry years between 2000–2002 – village growth resumed after passage of Proposition 218 through Arizonans on November 3rd 2002 which provided $8 million dollars over five years towards infrastructure improvements across Pima County that would include developing new quarters for village residents as well as expanding services available inside or around Village Hall (now known as 'Community House') - with thosePhase two projects eventually culminating into Village Green's grand reopening on Valentine's Day 2009 - following more than 4 decades since then!

Somerton, Arizona is a town in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Somerton arrived around 1887 when Mormon pioneers construction began on the Sahuarita Rancho de las Mesilla near present day Somerton. they named their new community after a small settlement in England which they had visited while traveling through that country and its surrounding areas. By 1912, population growth had led to the need for more than one school and so a new building was erected on Tenth Street across from the old Indian School (now known as Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church). In 1916 a post office called "Somerton" was established and remained in operation until it was discontinued by mail service in 1951. In 1922 an addition to the original town site were two small farms east of Seventh Street which became known as The Lakeshores because of their lovely water features: Surrounded by high hills with views of Mount Wilson and Mesa Verde National Park from many angles, these properties would remain uninhabited until 1984 when they were purchased by Donny Bernhardt who extensively renovated them into their current form including adding a swimming pool and beach area. A tornado damage assessment study conducted in early 2002 found extensive damage to buildings within town limits caused by tornadoes that struck during that year’s severe weather event; most notably those affecting Scottsdale on October 15th & 16th 2001 which left over 60 homes destroyed or damaged including many businesses along with dozens of injuries! A group of citizens effort resulting from this survey led to passage of legislation authorizing $115,000 towards reconstruction efforts within 2 years providing much needed assistance to residents who have since rebuilt both physically & emotionally!
In 1887, a group of men from Somerton, Arizona organized the first town meeting in that area. The men met to discuss the possibility of forming a village and voted to do so. They named their new settlement "Somerton" after the Somervilles who had donated land for the village. The town was founded on July 1, 1887.
