Somerton is located in Pinal County, Arizona, about an hour and a half east of Phoenix. It's a small town with a population of only around 660 people. The area has seen some pretty wild things happen over the years, but there have been also some pretty significant events that have taken place here. One such event was the accidental shooting death of Sheriff John Thomas in 1978. Since then, Somerton has developed its own protection history which dates back to at least 1915 when the first law enforcement officer in the area was hired. This person was named Harry Hays and he was responsible for policing the small community. He did this by making sure that everyone followed the laws that were set forth and that they weren't breaking them too frequently. In 1949, Sheriff Don Hancock came to Somerton and started working here full-time. He lasted until 1975 when he resigned due to illness. At this point, Deputy Clint Smith took over as sheriff and continued working here until 1984 when he left for another job. In 1993, Deputy Scotty Hunt became deputy sheriff and started work here full-time. He served until 2002 when he retired due to age limitations. The current sheriff is Doug Gray who began his term on January 1st, 2019. He replaced Clint Smith who had retired two years earlier after serving for 27 years consecutively! There have been several other deputies who have served throughout different stints but Doug Gray is currently the longest serving deputy ever!

The first settlers in Somerton were farmers who arrived in 1885. They began to grow wheat and other crops, but also raised livestock and fished in the local rivers. In 1915, a post office was established in Somerton, and it remained open until it closed in 1957. In the early 20th century, Somerton was home to several mining companies that operated out of nearby Tombstone. These mines produced coal, silver, gold and other minerals that were used for building materials and products from 1907 to 1914. After these operations stopped, Somerton became a agricultural community with small grocery stores and restaurants as its dominant industry. In 1951, there were 1,500 people living in Somerton; by 1990 this number had increased to 3,000 residents. However, due to climate change issues (which have persisted since then), farming has become less common as a mainstay of the economy here than it has elsewhere within Phoenix County. Electricity production ceased here entirely between 2001 and 2003 due to an electrical power line terrorism incident which left many businesses without power during those years; however new light manufacturing facilities have taken root throughout the town since then making up for any lost jobs or income potentials. A few notable businesses still operate today: Allstate Insurance Company (established 1955), Wells Fargo Bank (founded 1913), Gold's Gym (founded 1984). There are no schools within Somerton village limits; instead citizens attend schools within Phoenix or Tucson neighborhoods nearby while they learn about their own culture/history/community through various forms of educational institutions such as museums or even high school curriculums specifically tailored for this setting like "Arizona History Immersion" classes offered at Apache Junction High School which teach about pre-contact Apache culture through interactive exhibits etcetera etcetera...etcetera
