The Christensen family had several generations of farmers and ranch hands. In 1875, James Christensen married Anna Hornigstad and together they started a grocery store on an old mesquite tree stand in what is now Somerton. From this store, the Christensons sold farm supplies, tools and other items to local farmers. By 1915, the Christensen family had built their own home on a large lot east of town. The couple raised two daughters and operated their business until their death in 1951. In 1952, Charles Witherspoon became owner of the store and continued operation until his death in 1976. During his ownership, Witherspoon added a variety of items such as firearms and ammunition to the inventory including handguns made by Blackhawk Firearms Company in Phoenixville, PA. In 1984, when Witherspoon's daughter Linda inherited her father's business interest, she decided to keep it open as an antique shop selling raretools- both from within Arizona (primarily Western) and from around the world (including China). Linda also imported many European-made tools into Tucson during her time as owner/ manager of Alex & Annette’s Antique Shop before its closure in 2002 following Linda’s marriage to Don Bollinger. Today Alex & Annette’s Antique Shop continues operations under new management as Armenian Artsmithshop with special emphasis on ancient Armenia artifacts dating back more than 3200 years! In 1905 Reverend Wm Seymour became pastor of First Presbyterian Church and served until 1912 when he died from complications from diabetes mellitus at age 71 years old。 In 1916 somerville incorporated as a village under Pinal County law No 1036-A and adopted its present name The Village had its first election on November 3rd 1916 and Dr J Bapst was elected President with 55% of the vote On October 15th 1920 there was another election held for Village President with Dr James Fenton taking office with 62% of the vote Dr Fenton left office on January 1st 1921 after serving for six years On January 8th 1931 Mr A E Smith took over as Mayor leaving Dr James Fenton as Village President effective February 14th 1931
