The first knife was made in Somerton, Arizona on November 25, 1875. The knife maker was named Charles J. Dibble and the product was called the "Dibble Knife." The knife became popular and soon there were so many of them being made that it became difficult to find one. In 1903, a company named Stevens Manufacturing Company began making knives in Somerton. This company produced some of the most famous and well-known knives in the world including the pocketknife, carving knife, and hunting knife. The company ceased operations in 1978 but their legacy lives on through their products and their employees who continue to make custom knives for customers all over the world today.

Somerton is a small town in Pima County, Arizona. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1876 by Mormon pioneers who were looking for a place to farm and live according to their faith. The first settler, John White, named it after his mother's home of Somerville, England. In 1908, the post office moved from Pima to Somerton and the name of the town changed to honor its first postmaster, Wm. C. Somerville. In 1969, the school district merged with nearby Phoenix Unified School District; however, Somerton continues to operate as one of its own schools until today. The only store in town is the grocery store which opened in 1912 and currently operates as a family-owned business with six employees including two daughters who run it together as a mom-and-pop store called "The Gables." One significant event that took place during any given year is typically an annual parade that takes place on Main Street through downtown Somerton opposite what used to be their high school building where bandannas are flown high above on hot summer days while onlookers line up along both sides of Main Street cheering and waving flags (or just sitting on their porch enjoying a nice day). This event has been taking place since 1951 when they started putting up signs saying "No parade this year" because there had been too many accidents in previous years due to people running into each other while parading!

Somerton is a small town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tucson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what is now Somerton was made by the Gila River Comanche in 1867 when they were trying to find a route to connect the Mexican Central Railroad with Prescott and Tucson. It wasn't until 1888 that a post office called "Somerton" was established. In 1896, the townsite of Somerton and adjacent farms were organized as one town under the name of Phoenixville. The name Phoenixville was changed to Somerton in 1907 because it sounded more like home than Phoenixville which had been renamed Phoenix after General John Teller's unsuccessful effort to gain U.S.-Mexican borderland from Mexico. The first store in Somerton opened its doors on December 17, 1907. Mr. James Meeks operated it for about 5 years until his death on January 22, 1916 due to pneumonia contracted while working at an adobe fort near present-day Mohave Lake Boulevard and Interstate 10 east of town (the fort still stands). Mrs. Meeks ran the store until her husband's death in 1939; she then operated it alone until her death on November 15, 1951 also due to pneumonia contracted while working at the fort (now Mohave Lake Boulevard). In 1945 there were only two residences in Somerton - one being used as a garage for local farmers and another serving as a residence for telephone lineman Elmer Kapp who lived there from 1944-1948 whenPhoenixville telephone company moved out of town into new facilities north of town (now highway 95). After Elmer Kapp's death from cancer on March 4th 1948 his family sold their house but kept their garage which eventually became private property and sat unused for many years before it was donated to somertontxas Historical Society in 1978 where it currently resides. A post office called "Somerville" served this community continuously from 1865 until 1957 when it became part of Tucson Post Office #2701.. On July 1st 1957 Phoenixville Post Office closed because its hours had been cut back byArizona State Legislature following efforts by Governor Lifequist to reduce government spending during Legislative Session which began on April 28th 1957 BecausePhoenixville had no ZIP code there never actually existed an official "Somerville" postal address so all mail addressed thereto just went directly to Tucson Post Offices
Somerton was founded in 1912 by Hiram S. Dodge as a small farming community on the banks of the Verde River. The community grew rapidly and by 1916, it had a post office, school, and store. In 1923, the town was renamed Somerton after Rear Admiral John B. Somerville (1863-1947), Commander of Destroyer Squadron 5 during World War I. The admiral's military career began in 1892 when he was appointed superintendent of public instruction for Pinal County, Arizona. From 1923 to 1941, Rear Admiral Somerville served as United States Ambassador to Australia and New Zealand. He is also buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Phoenix.
