The first school in Somerton was built on Main Street and operated for three years before being moved to what is now Middle School (now called East Elementary). The second school building was erected on Cemetery Road about one mile from downtown which served for thirty-six years until it burned down in 1967 with all inside destroyed save for some brick remains which are still standing today as part of Apache Community Church’s restoration project.).
