Today, Somerton is home to the oldest continuously operating black powder revolver manufacturer in the United States, as well as one of the largest calibers for handguns in the country. Today’s ammunition industry is still heavily reliant on black powder and percussion caps; however, digital rounds are becoming increasingly popular due to their convenience and low recoil. In 1886, Winchester started manufacturing centerfire cartridges at their plant in Somerton. This allowed them to enter into a partnership with Remington which would allow them to produce both centerfire and revolvers using Remington brass (later known as “Winchester brass”). The relationship between Winchester and Remington would continue until 1898 when Winchester discontinued production of its firearms in favor of Petzval ammo products. After World War II, ammunition production resumed thanks to importation from Europe. However, it wasn’t until the late 1960s that American manufacturers regained control over the market for ammunition domestically. After the war ended in 1945, the company continued to produce munitions under various names including American Ammunition Company from 1951 to 1967; Centurion Mfg., Incorporated from 1968 to 1982; Western Ammunition Corp.,Incorporated from 1984 to 1993; Republic Ammunition Corporation from 1994 to 1998; and Magma Ordnance Corporation from 1999 to 2001.
Somerton, Arizona is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona. The population was 1,738 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The name "Somerton" is thought to come from Spanish and means "place where there are grapes." The first permanent settler in Somerton was Wm. H. Blyth in 1875. He built a cabin on the edge of a small village near present-day Sierra Vista and sold grape crops to local farmers for years until he decided to move his business eastward in 1905 to better compete with other winegrowing communities in centralArizona. In 1909, Wm. Dyer started growing apples here and soon became one of Somerton's most successful landowners and entrepreneurs – responsible for developing much of what remains today about its unique appellation: remote oak forests providing deep shade for grapevines during winter; deep irrigation canals fed by snow melt; gentle slopes that make good vineyards; sandy soil that doesn’t require calcium leaching (a practice often used to promote growth) Over time, many people have called Somerton home: ranchers, farmers, miners, citrus growers (the Pomares family), architects, plant breeders/naturalists who developed new varieties of vinesyard plants (including some now grown all over North America), early 20th century veterans who served in World War I or II Today's community traces its roots back to those early days when families lived together close by while they grew grapes and raised livestock A post office was established at Somerton on July 17, 1912, but it never opened because postal service wasn't available then as it is now

During World War I, muzzle loading weapons were replaced by machinegun technology which made larger amounts of ammunition available at little cost per shot compared to other types of warfare such as cannonade or infantry assault. Ammunition historian Michael Seddon has written that this change was responsible for an increase in casualties on both sides during World War I exceeding 1 million dead and wounded soldiers – a figure that would not have been possible without reliable ammo supplies!

SOMERTON, Ariz. - A small town in the Tucson Mountains, Somerton was founded in 1881 by a group of Latter-day Saints who came from Utah to escape religious persecution. The community became a stop on the stagecoach route between Tucson and Phoenix. In 1916, Indian Removal Act forced the relocation of many LDS citizens to what is now Oklahoma. By 1930, just 10 residents lived in Somerton; most were farmers or sheep herders. In that year, an act of Congress called for the creation of a new city in Cochise County with its own government and school district. The resulting population growth led to the town's incorporation as a municipality in 1935. After years of growth and development, Somerton reached its current size and status as a vibrant community with easy access to education and businesses. Over time, SOMERTON has become known for its wide variety of cultural experiences: music festivals, art exhibitions, theatrical productions, and outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing/snowboarding.
Somerton was founded in 1912 by a group of farmers who were looking for a place to farm and live. The town quickly developed, and by the late 1920s it had a population of around 100 people. In the 1930s, Somerton became an agricultural center, and soon began to grow into a town with its own school system, churches, businesses and services. In the 1940s, Somerton experienced some growth again as it became home to several military airfields during World War II. After the war ended, Somerton continued to grow as an agricultural center until the early 1990s when it started to experience significant decline. By then, most of the town's residents had either died or moved away. Today, much of Somerton remains rural farmland with a few small businesses dotted around the community.
