From its beginnings as an agricultural community until World War II when it became an industrial center for munitions production and aircraft manufacturing, Sierra Vista experienced rapid growth throughout much of the 20th century but beganto slow down after World War II due to declines in agriculture and industry. However there have been recent efforts by local leaders including Mayor Donny Dean and current Mayor Jerry Wexler to revive these industries with mixed success; currently only two factories remain open - one producing small engines used by farmers in rural areas across central Arizona while another produces construction supplies such as lumber and window frames made from recycled materials By 1990s social unrest had begun to surface throughout much of Arizona due largely to simmering anger over economic disparities between rich versus poor residents within their communities; this discontent also spilled into neighboring statesparticularly Nevada where protests took place outside Reno city hall earlier that year over what seemed like unfair tax treatment accorded certain businesses within that city . Sierra Vista is a small city in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The history of Sierra Vista dates back to 1867 when Mexican traders discovered gold in what is now Sierra Vista. A post office was established in 1868, and by 1870 the town had a population of 20 residents. On October 26, 1886, the land that would become Sierra Vista was patented to Hiram Hockaday and James Fenton for 640 acres (2 km²). The town began to grow rapidly; within two years it had a population of 350 people. In 1890 Elisha Diller donated land to the community for an agricultural school. For over 60 years until 1912, Sierra Vista operated as a rural post office with mail delivery from Tucson until its merger with Phoenix on February 11th that year. In 1912 local citizens approved plans to build a new city hall and courthouse on their property adjacent to their old medical clinic and farmsteads; this became known as "Sierra Vista". Construction started in 1914 but due to World War I delays the building finally commenced in 1921-22 under then-Mayor John Larkin's leadership marked by "Homespunivalry" - individuals worked on each block one at a time without paychecks or benefits while still living in their homes which led some residents later nicknamed "Larking Around Town". The original City Hall Building still stands today as part of downtown Sierra Vista Historic District #7 (). Population growth continued through World War II: by 1950 there were 2,000 residents living in what is now Sierra Vista proper; however following the war a significant decrease occurred due again to wartime influences including restrictions on housing development along with increased crime rates and air bombardments which caused Many buildings throughout town destroyed or damaged during bombing raids (e.g., City Hall Building).
