Sierra Vista is a small, rural town in the Tucson metropolitan area. It is located about 25 miles (40 kilometers) southwest of Tucson and 30 miles (48 kilometers) northwest of Phoenix. The population of Sierra Vista was 7,882 at the 2010 census. The first guns in Sierra Vista were stock firearms that were used for target shooting. The name "Sierra Vista" means "high mountain range." In 1892 a post office called Sierra Vista was established, but it closed in 1902. In 1912 the community of Sierra Vista was founded by W.W. Chambers and A.C. Herrington as a dry goods store on the site of what is now UA's Chandler Student Union building on Second Street NW. The first school in Sierra Vista was opened in 1914 by Mrs. Hilda Ladd and teacher Charles Hall with six students in a small room near their home on East First Avenue NW (now UAlbany Place NW). After Mrs Sperry Elementary School opened in 1929 along Second Street NE it became one of Tucson's two schools for African Americans and served as an elementary/junior high school until it closed its doors in 1957 after serving black pupils from pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade for 54 years! In 1957 United Methodist Church moved from Seventh Street SE across I-10 to its current location across from UA's main campus just south of Greenway Road - this new church also became known as Sierra Vista Methodist Episcopal Church which still serves today! On November 25, 1959 local voters passed an ordinance authorizing racial integration within the city limits – thus becoming one of only two cities or towns in Pima County to do so during that time! The first black family to reside in Sierra Vista arrived when Donald Woods' parents bought property adjacent to their house on Third Street NE on October 9, 1960 – they were followed by Harry Snead & his wife Helen who purchased land east side of Third Street NE soon thereafter! From then until 1967 all citizens were required to show identification whenever they wished to enter or leave town limits! As most people did not have driver's licenses at that time many had to use handouts given out by businesses/government entities! A public library was built within walking distance of both UA and Sierra Vista High Schools starting Fall 1966 with $5000 raised from local businesses/individuals thru bake sales/etc.; dedication ceremonies took place September 25th 1966 & December 3rd 1966; initial collection totaled $2900 inaugurated January 1st 1967; membership grew rapidly due more individuals donating materials(even animals!)& later expansion into auxiliary branches throughout City Limits!! In Fall 1969 construction began on remodeled Education Annex Building which provided sanctuary for grades 4-12 priorWNTOmorow become adult education classes!!! In Spring 1975 Branch Library opened adjacentto Recreation Center which served dogs (later cats) thru 1976; finally opening w/ exact same hours as Recreation Center proper!!!!! Voters approved bond measure #1 increasing facility costs associated w/$4M increase over original plan$131K total project cost including interest expense

In 1912 an act passed by Congress designated Sierra Vista as an incorporated town; it had no governing body until 1918 when the City Council was created with three members elected at large from within the city limits (the mayor then held veto power). Prior to this, town meetings were generally held informally between councilors and citizens gathered around fireplaces or on logs set up for public discusssions during cold winter months when indoor activities were not possible or inconveniently attended. During World War II Sierra Vista played an important role as one of several production centers for Army ammunition plants located across Arizonaeferring to its strategic location on Route 66 just outside Tucson
