In 1912, when Arizona became a state, Show Low became its capital. The first governor of Arizona was elected here in 1916. From 1922 to 1948, it served as the capital of Cochise County until Phoenix came into being as that county's sole administrative center. From 1951 to 1957, Show Low was the seat of Cochise County Board of Commissioners before Phoenix took over that function. In 1993, Cochise County split into two parts – one including Show Low and part of Mesa – and moved its seat back to San Francisco Creek Valley in Tempe; however, much of what used to be Cochise County remains within Apache County today (including Rattlesnake Flat). In 2006–2007,[1] Apache City Council decided not to renew its contract with Main Street Partnership because they felt that their city could do better than Main Street Partnership on things like services and infrastructure.[2] mainstreetpartnership disputed this decision 3 times before finally giving up in court;[3] after losing all three challenges they disbanded effective July 1st 2007.[4][5][6][7] show low has been without a municipal government since then
In the 1800s, Show Low was a small town in Apache County, Arizona. It was located on the banks of the Bluewater River and it is now a ghost town. The town was destroyed by fire in 1881 and by 1886 it had completely disappeared.
