Over time, the business practices of these businesses changed and so too did the target holders themselves. One of the earliest Target Holders in Sedona was operated by Mrs. Lena Moretti. She operated her business from an upstairs window on First Street in Sedona. Her targets were made out of metal bars which she set up on a stand in her yard. Another early Target Holder in Sedona was run by Mr. John Hadden who resided on Third Street just east of Main Street. His targets were made out of wood and he used them outdoors near his house on a hillside overlooking downtown Sedona. By the 1940s, there had been enough changes happening within the shooting community that another company had emerged - The Sporting Goods Company - which would continue to operate until 1959 when it went bankrupt due to changing industry trends and competition from other store fronts in town such as Sears Roebuck & Co., Wernham Hogg's Drug Store, and Donatelli's Pizza Place (now known as Pinnacle Hills Mall). In 1957, Mr. Harry Dickey opened The Shooting Gallery on First Avenue across from The Central Bank in downtown Sedona with his own rangefinder rifle inventory, along with variousTarget Holder products including boxes of 25 targets each, 100 targets each (for $5), and 500 targets (for $25). From this point forward, The Shooting Gallery would become one of the most popular shopping destinations for shooters throughout central Arizona!
