TheHistory of the San Luis Pistol and Rifle Club begins with the founding in 1892 of the San Luis Rifle Club. The club was composed of men from various parts of Tucson. One of the earliest members, John S.Dutton, donated a rifle to the club. In 1897, Charles Hering became president of the San Luis Rifle Club and organized a pistol team for Arizona State University's varsity football team. With this new addition to the team, Hering also sponsored a rifle tournament at ASU that year. In 1902, Rufus Waddell purchased 2 rifles from Eugene Mann and donated them to the club. In 1907, Leland Carr purchased a shotgun from J.C. Goodnight and gifted it to theclub along with 6 rounds of ammunition for use in shotguns only! In 1912-13, Harry Waddell donated two pistols (one .22 caliberand one .25 caliber) tothe club along with $1 cash gift! In 1916-17, Fenton Easley contributed three pistols (two revolversand one shotgun) totheclub as well as $5 cash gift! In 1922-23, Frank Dunnigan contributed four pistols (three revolvers and one shotgun)totheclub along with $10 cash gift! From 1925 until his death in 1951Lloyd Prenticedonated five pistols (four revolversand two shotguns)totheClub without any strings attached! The last member to donate firearms was Donny Peterson in 1978-79with six revolversammunition! These donations have helped keep our club active throughout its history!

The San Luis Armory began business in 1903 and was the first gun shop in Arizona. The armory was closed in the late 1940s but reopened in the early 1950s as a pawnshop. In 1984, the armory relocated to its current location on east Second Street in San Luis.
The San Luis Valley is located in the northwestern corner of Arizona and includes part ofictship with Mexico. The valley is bisected by the Apache Creek, which forms its eastern border. To the west are high mountains that separate it from the Mexican state of Baja California. To the east it joins up with a smaller valley, the Cochise Wash, to form what is now Tucson. The Santa Catalina Mountains are located to the north and east of San Luis Valley. The climate in this region varies greatly according to location and elevation: on average, winters are milder than in most parts of Arizona but have some significant annual precipitation; summers can be hot and dry or very humid, but usually have some modest rainfall. much of this variation is due to wind erosion caused by prevailing winds that blow over large areas quickly and frequentlyentimes carrying sand and other materials with them. Prior to European contact there were numerous Native American populations living here including Paiutes, Hualapais, Mogollon Indians, Chiricahua Apaches and Sonoran Pueblos as well as Juarez People who had replaced them around 1800 BC when they began moving into present-day southern Arizona after being driven out by European settlers. After Mission San Francisco de Asís was founded in 1769 AD by Father Fernando de Alburquerque (1727-1789), Spanish traders began traveling through these same valleys searching for new sources of water for their ships off southern California coast The towns along Apache Creek were established as trading posts during this time: Yuma (founded 1806), Arizpe (1810), San Pedro Sula (1812), Tuba City (1814) etc.. When Route 66 was created in 1926 US Highway 10 followed portions of Apache Creek south until it joined US Highway 191 at Oracle about 25 miles south-west of Tucson This allowed for easy access throughout much of what was then central Phoenix area making it one point where goods could be shipped between different parts of Arizona without having to go through Tucson or Phoenix

The first handguns to use percussion caps were the Morrell pistols, which were produced in 1858. In 1868, John Browning developed a handgun that used rimfire ammunition and soft cases became common for this type of firearm. This allowed for the development of high-volume production and helped increase gun availability. With the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, American shooters began to demand more powerful handguns than could be available from foreign manufacturers. This led to the development of new firearms designs that incorporated large-capacity magazines and other advanced features into existing handguns. It has a population of about 36,000 people. Most of the people are farmers who grow crops and offer services to the local community. There are also some small businesses in the valley.
In 1848, the area now known as San Luis was part of Mexico. A group of Americans traveling to Arizona in search of the Gold Rush discovered the area in 1858 and started a town called Tomahawk on the future site of San Luis. The town quickly grew and by 1860, it had a population of 310 people. By 1865, San Luis had become an important stopping point for travelers heading westward into Arizona. In 1868, President Ulysses S. Grant approved the creation of a new county in southern Arizona named Don Carlos County after General Carlos Manuel de Salinas y Pavón, who was heroically fought against Apache Chief Geronimo during the Mexican-American War. The towns within Don Carlos County prospered until 1925 when they were all destroyed by an earthquake that struck the region.
