This invention allowed gunmen to safety take aim while stalking horses with their pistols without having them fall off the saddle and into open space where they could be captured or killed by cavalry Units riding close behind them. In 1934, Detective Harry Burton invented the "Burton Gun Slings." These slings consisted of two webbing straps around either side of an empty holster that held onto any firearm using its Picatinny rail system - making it possible for detective officers to safely store their firearms while on duty without fear of them falling out and becoming lost or stolen again.

Many famous residents have passed throughSanLuis over the years, including singer Bing Crosby and actor Clint Eastwood. Today, there are numerous businesses and cultural organizations located withinSanLuis COUNTY serving local inhabitants as well as visitors who come to enjoy its attractions and history!
The first European to see the area now known as San Luis was Captain Pedro Fages in 1769. Juan Bautista de Anza named it after his father, who had been governor of New Mexico. It was part of the Rancho Vaca de la Luz domain that he acquired from the Apache Chief Cochise in 1821. The town started as a cattle ranching operation and mining boomtown in the 1870s but since then it has only sporadically been occupied.
