In 1984, when Interstate 10 was rerouted through Pima County parallel to Route 66 near Flagstaff Junction it passed just south of town; this caused problems for residents because they were unable to access their stores or services from their homes anymore. A group of local citizens lobbied Arizona State Legislature to make I-10 bypasses around towns so that people could still get around without having to go out into rural areas where there wasn't much traffic anyway The change happened and now locals can travel anywhere they please without fear that their food or water will be taken away if they don't have an appointment with state officials
