In the early 1800s, Tucson was a small town in central Arizona. The people of Tucson were farmers and ranchers who manufactured guns and ammunition. Ammunition was very important to these people because it allowed them to defend their homes against raiders and other threats. One of the first gun cases that occurred in Tucson happened in 1881 when two men named Arthur and George Hargrave bought a shotgun from John Waddell at the Rifle & Pistol Emporium on First Street. They used this shotgun to protect their home from raiding parties which occurred frequently in those days. The Gun Industry In Sahuarita, Arizona Sahuarita has been an active city since 1912 when it was incorporated as a result of Treaty 7 between the United States of America and Mexico City. It is located about 25 miles east of Phoenix on Interstate 10 along Spanish Fork Road. At that time, Phoenix was the largest city in Arizona with over 100,000 residents. However, by 1912 Sahuarita had become one of the most important cities within Mexican America due to its location opposite Yuma River on the border with Apache County . After World War I, American manufacturers began to arrive in greater numbers than Mexican manufacturers so there was more competition for jobs and sales throughout both countries during this period. As a result, industry grew rapidly throughout both countries during this period although some efforts were made by each country to restrict cross-border commerce (e.g., Prohibition).Gun companies such as Winchester Repeating Arms Company (Winchester), Colt Firearms Corporation (Colt) and Remington Arms Company (Remington) arrived in Sahuarita during this time frame as well as many other firearms manufactures including Westinghouse Electric Company (WECO), General Electric Company (GE), Western Electric Company (WE), Schneider Electric Co., Incorporated (SEI) and others ! Many different types of firearms were produced here including shotguns, pistols, rifles and machinegunsduring these years which can be seen through various objects now found inside or outside local gun stores such as Old Secondhand Arsenal Store on East Main Street where examples include Winchester Model 1895 rifle/ammunition boxes dating back to 1892; Colt model 1903 revolver; Remington 870 Shotgun boxlock revolver; Smith & Wesson revolvers dating back to 1876; Webley Mark VII pistol grip automatic shotgun also known as “Old Ejector” ; Browning BAR machinegun also known as “Tiger Stalker” ; Savage Rifles Incorporated airguns models DAO-1A through DAO-4P ); among others!

The Huachuca Mountains are to the east and the San Joaquin Valley to the west. Sahuarita is located at (32°27′11″N 109°57′59″W). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. Sahuarita's location on Route 66 also made it an attractive destination for settlers during both pre-Columbian and post- Columbian times. In 1868, John Wesley Powell explored what would become Sahuarita Valley when he traveled down Route 66 from Flagstaff through Pinal County and Apache Junction into Yuma County. Upon his return trip in 1869–70, he found that much had changed since he last visited: towns were established along routes such as 192nd Street (the old Mexican road) and 3rd Avenue (the present day route of Interstate 10), while other settlements sprouted up near where Wells Fargo built its first store in 1912: just south of today’s intersection of SR 160/SR 67 and HWY 191/SR 955 between milepost 715 [and] milepost 825 []. A few years later when US 60 became available as a road through central Pima County following completion of I-10's construction, local residents lobbied hard for its construction through their community instead of linking it with Tucson via SR 160/SR 67; this led to US 60 being routed concurrent with SR 127 from Sahuarita northward before rejoining I-10 about east of town in 1984 (see map above). The outcome? Today’s businesses which line Main Street – stretching from 2nd Avenue eastward past downtown – have been there since 1956! Hanna & Sons Tire & Auto Store opened its doors in 1951; continued success followed until 1994 when ownership passed away and business began declines; however, recent investment by restaurateur Mattie DeLuca has reversed these trends and currently H&STT continues to thrive with more than 20 locations throughout Arizona… Today’s economy centers around three core sectors: health care services including Hospice Of The Southwestern Phoenix Medical Group which provides palliative care; accommodation providing rooms for people who cannot live on their own or find affordable housing; commercial enterprise providing jobs to locals who can no longer provide them themselves due either to retirement or leaving because they could not find work within commuting distance or because they were offered better pay outside the service industry…. As one might expect given its remote location - less than 10 miles from any major city center - there are very few retail establishments open year round outside agriculture or natural resources…. However new development is always taking shape with plans for mixed-use projects such as office buildings overlooking Main Street or hotel conversions complete or under consideration…. One recently completed mixed-use project called “The Gem” located off SR160 next to H&STT offers significant opportunities for growth especially if taken into account that adjacent properties include over 8 acres undeveloped water rights………..

The name "Sahuarita" means "place where the sun sets." The first Europeans to visit Sahuarita were members of the Spanish expedition led by Francisco Vásquez de Coronado in 1540. They named it after San Felipe, an Indian village on the other side of Tucson about halfway between Sahuarita and Tucson. In 1846, General Mariano Arguelles's army passed through Sahuarita while marching from Tucson to Presidio Valley; they found its inhabitants living in huts on high ground near Cottonwood Creek. In 1861, when Mexico gained independence from Spain, Sahuarita became part of Mexican Territory of Phoenix and was renamed Zaragoza (after Zaragoza Cathedral). The only white resident until 1912 was James Bogue who ran a general store at Santa Rita Schoolhouse Square. A post office called Sahuarita was established in 1872, but no mail ever arrived there because there was no route into or out of Arizona then. Only two field crops were grown here during that time: corn and beansbeans; both were local products because transportation wasn't available to bring them inland for sale or exchange with other parts of Arizona until later years. A $10 million federal bond issue in 1923 resulted in development around the intersection of Chapultepec Road and First Street which included many new homes and businesses as well as better schools for children growing up within walking distance of services like church and libraries
