Queen Creek is named for Queen Charlotte of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Duchess of Brunswick-Lichtenstein and Princess of Tuscany. Her husband, Prince Leopold II of Belgium, purchased the Rancho del Campo de la Cruz in Queen Creek from Juanita Coleman and her husband John Clayton in 1852. The first post office was established at Queen Creek on November 7, 1853. In 1906 the Arizona Territorial Legislature changed Apache County's name to Coconino County to honor General David Hunter Coconino who had fought for Arizona during the Mexican–American War and later served as Governor of New Mexico Territory (1896-1900). In 1912 Queen Creek incorporated as a city under the same laws as Phoenix but with no voting power until it reapplied for incorporation in 1959. The first school that opened in Queen Creek was built by Mrs. Crouse and her students from Indian School #1 just south of what is now First Avenue North when it opened on October 17, 1856. This school continued until 1915 when it moved to an adjacent building which still stands today across First Avenue North from McDonalds Corner Pharmacy (now known as "Quesada"). That same year also saw the opening of a new elementary school which became known as "Queen's School" after Mrs. Crouse's daughter queenie became Mrs. Osgood Porter Kerridge (1915-1996) who donated land next door for this purpose along with other donations which included $5,000 toward building a high school on condition that it be named after her mother queenie becomest girlhood heroine! After many years campaigns by parents/guardians groups culminating withMrs Pettit’s purchase of property adjoining Queens School property in 1984; the current high school campus opened its doors to students on September 26th 1991! On page 2E under heading: “School Reopens Following closures last year” reporter Don Arbuckle announced that festivities will take place starting around 5pm tonight at: “Queen creek Elementary will open its doors following closure last year due to fire code violations” With District 9 Fire Chief Jim McCann presiding over proceedings photos will be taken inside and outside according to plans prior arrangements have been made with local restaurant chains such as KFC and Pizza Hut event lawn seating capacity has yet to be determined however we anticipate large crowds anticipated

In 1880, a church was built at Queen Creek and in 1889, a school was also built at Queen Creek. From 1901 to 1912, Queen Creek had a post office with one of the earliest ZIP codes in Arizona The population of Queen Creek increased rapidly during this time and by 1912 it had reached its peak with over 1,500 residents living there In 1921-1922 the amount of water available for irrigation decreased which led to a decline in population growth until it began to increase again in the late 1920s The area around Queen Creek is now occupied by other communities such as Apache Junction and Flagstaff
