The town grew rapidly thanks to its location, good soil, and water resources. By 1927 it had a library, post office, telephone company, law enforcement officer detachment (later renamed as Metro Police Department), school district (later renamed as King High School), garage/workshop/farmington gas station/marketplace/lumberyard/, hotel (now called Radisson Hotel), bowling alley (now known as Mesa Bowl Center), and several churches. In 1959 Queen Creek became an incorporated city with a mayor-council form of government under which each resident elected one member to a five-member council with responsibility for local issues including zoning laws; education; public health; police services; street maintenance; welfare; and social services etc., plus limited powers over appropriations made by council members without vote or justification. In 1992 Queen Creek merged with neighboring Apache Junction to form a new city with equal rights for all residents within its boundaries - this change did not occur in Queen Creek's neighboring communities of Apache Junction or Mesa because they were still towns whenqueencreek merged there).
