The name "Queen Creek" was given to it by the United States Geological Survey because of its location at the confluence of River Queen and River Indianola. Queen Creek is located on the east side of Phoenix and extends intoMohave County. The town's population was 2,868 as of 2010. It is part of ZIP code 85301. The first inhabitants of Queen Creek were Native Americans who hunted game in what is now centralPhoenix. After European settlement began, miners arrived in 1867 seeking gold and silver near Kingman Lake in Mohave County. Because access to these resources was difficult to find, mining operations continued until the early 20th century when all but one mine closed due to depletion or bans from other countries following World War I. In 1922, mineral rights were bought by David Waddell who named his ranch Queen City after his wife’s native country (Canada). Queen Creek is a city in Huachuca County, Arizona, United States. The population was 2,597 at the 2000 census. Queen Creek is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The first people to live in this area were the Hualapai and Apache peoples. In 1862, the Spanish Empire discovered this area and named it "Queen Creek" after their queen who had recently given birth to a son in Mexico City. A post office was established at Queen Creek on July 7, 1872, and mail was carried from Phoenix to Queen Creek by wagon train. The Mormon Battalion arrived at Queen Creek on September 17, 1847, during the Mexican-American War. This battalion served as scouts for General John Logan and participated in battles such as Buena Vista and Monterrey Bayou Bridge. After the war ended, many of these men returned home to help found what would become Queen Creek. On May 10, 1878 Navajo Indians led by Sitting Bull attacked a stockade near present-day Flagstaff while supplies were being unloaded for an upcoming mission trip westward; 25 white men were killed and dozens more wounded before Indian Chief Joseph Custer arrived with reinforcements and drove them off. Salt Lake City resident George Wickersham donated land east of town for a school district which opened in 1886; today's Flagstaff Elementary School is located within that boundary of Wickersham Park (now known as Chino Hills). In 1903 construction began on Arizona State Route 202 (later US 66), which connected Flagstaff with Tucson via queen creek crossing over the Gila River near present-day Paysonville; today's CR 202 crosses over Kingman Road just south of US 66 exit 191A/Queen Creek Boulevard intersection). roadway access improved rapidly due to its importance as a route connecting Arizona’s growing agricultural sector with Southern California’s burgeoning mining industry; accordingly numerous businesses sprang up along SR 202 throughout much of surrounding rural Huachuca County including shopping centers (Alpharetta Mills Shopping Center & Supercenter), banks (Federation National Bank & First National Bank) and churches (First Presbyterian Church & Stake Center). By 1919SR 202 had also reached Tempe where it crossed I-10 northbound just south of Scottsdale Rd.; today's AZ State Route 206 skirts around downtown Tempe before rejoining SR 202 northeast of Scottsdale Rd.. Today much like when SR 302 was created almost 100 years ago there are countless businesses open along SR 202: restaurants (Gordons BBQ Pit adjacent to I-10 Exit 191B), stores - most notably Walmart - services - recreation areas such as golf courses nearby or minutes away including Camelback Mountain Resort right next door - schools providing essential services such as law enforcement or emergency medical responders - many homes have been turned into apartments or condos catering towards tourists etc etc... Allowing motorists less than one minute per mile traveled along SR 202 makes it one busy highway!
