Queen Creek is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. Its name comes from Queen Creek Canyon which runs through the town. Queen Creek is known for its annual Strawberry Festival which takes place in late July or early August. Queen Creek was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1867 as part of the Utah Territorial District. It became a city on December 15, 1909 following incorporation by an act of the Arizona Legislature. On January 1, 1912, Queen Creek became one of two cities in Pinal County when it merged with neighboring Scottsdale to form the new Pinal–Scottsdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. On October 15, 1996, Queen Creek was again incorporated as a city and has since grown rapidly becoming one of southern Arizona's most affluent communities with a median household income of $101,781 as estimated by The Phoenix New Times in 2018. Queen Creek history begins with Mormon pioneers who arrived during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). Some 6 men and women left Nauvoo Illinois on February 17th 1850 on handcarts headed for what would become Queen Creek canyon east of Scottsdale AZ Territory under American rule after Mexico lost that war against Ulysses S Grant’s United States Army. Joseph Smith had prophesied that this spot would be where Salt Lake City would be built so Brigham Young decided to move his people westward into what is now Weber County AZ Territory starting March 14th 1847 just west of present day Scottsdale AZ Territory line then called Spanish Fork Valley then McDowell County NV Territory where they started building their spiritual headquarters eventually called Nauvoo UT but soon renamed to “Queen creek canyon” because much like today’s queen creek there were many forks within their original group including Cedar Mesa northwest of Scottsdale while Provo south east near present day Kingman AZ also within their general area including Cottonwood Heights northeast outside our current boundaries today before they reached what is now Queen creek canyon about 11 miles due northwest from Nephi UT according to some sources only 5 or 6 out total made it all the way across country along dusty old trails not easy said more about them later In years prior there were numerous Indian Removal efforts led by General James Hardee army commander over 100 miles long drawn out process involving 7 months baking desert heat making poor campgrounds available for troops and 20 days walking each way leaving behind thousands dead or missing plus many more injured although no treaty ever signed between US & Native nations allowed such practices never ending violence until finally forced removal ended in 1865 when last remaining native tribe surrendered 505 miles southwest of Presidio CA

Queen Creek is located in the Apache Nation and it was first populated by the Kincaids in 1867. The Pima County Historical Society has a house built in 1859 that is said to be the first white house in Queen Creek.
