However, by 1950 Queen Creek's population had decreased significantly due largely tohillbillies moving into nearby Apache Junction and other areas of southeastern Arizona following the end of World War II.

Queen Creek was founded in 1881 by cattle drives from New Mexico Territory. The first settlers were farmers who grew barley, corn, wheat, oats and other crops. A post office was established at Queen Creek in 1886. By 1907, the population had increased to 80 people and a school was built for them. In 1914, an irrigation system was constructed that allowed for large-scale crops such as cotton and fruit trees to be grown near the town center. The community prospered until World War II when it lost its status as a major agricultural center due to decreased access to irrigation water and limited market demand for agriculture products in Arizona during this time period. During World War II, Queen Creek became a training camp for soldiers from Arizona and Arizona National Guardsmen who served in Europe under Operation Overlord (the Normandy invasion). The town also hosted several Victory gardens which fed troops stationed throughout France and Belgium during that war. After the war, Queen Creek declined again; its population only increased to 30 people by 1971 because of commuting opportunities available within Phoenix proper rather than travel outside of it to attend classes or work local farms or businesses. In 1984–1985, Queen Creek experienced an economic turnaround due to increasing tourism activity within Phoenix proper while other parts of Maricopa County remained unchanged by what had happened previously there with no development happening there until after 9/11/2001 when substantial investment began occurring both locally and nationally within Arizona's largest city limits as well culminating with over 100 new jobs created specifically aroundazcentralPhoenix through programs such as Tempe Forward Inc.'s Sun City Fashion Park project which brings high-end retailing directly into central Phoenix employing entire families employed full-time thereby creating thousands more quality American jobs than ever before seeing daylight despite deep recessionary times throughout much of America at that point) giving rise once again not only to growth but long term stability having long been absent from most core North American cites since then

Queen Creek is located in the Apache National Forest, about 25 miles east of Phoenix. The creek was named for a Queen of Mexico who fathered an illegitimate child with a U.S. Indian scout.
