The Prescott Valley Rifle and Shotgun Club was organized in 1907. The club enjoyed some of the most successful years of its existence in the early 1900s, when it won multiple rifle and shotgun titles at various local, state and national championships. In 1912, the club hosted the first world championship shooting event at Deer Springs Ranch in Prescott Valley. The success of this event led to increased interest in rifle and shotgun hunting in nearby Apache Nation. In 1916, the Prescott Valley Rifle & Shotgun Club became a full member of the American National Shooting Association (ANSA). This membership facilitated continued success for the club as it participated in many elite events across America.

The Hickey Rifle Company served in World War I and World War II before disbanding on September 15, 1946. The current rifle stock company located in Prescott Valley is called "The Patriot." It was formed on July 1, 1959 by C E Myers with the goal of stocking rifles for local law enforcement officers throughout southern Arizona. Prescott Valley was founded in 1867 by David Prescott and his brother John. The area now includes the towns of Prescott, Green River, and Scenic Rim. The region had been home to Native American cultures for many years before European exploration arrived. In 1867, two groups of Mormons set out from Nauvoo, Illinois on their way to colonize what is now Utah. They named their new outpost after President George Washington and called it Fort Douglas because of its location at Douglas Peak in the Santa Catalina Mountains. Prescott Valley was peaceful until 1861 when a group of Mexican Americans led by José María Cárdenas attacked the local Mormon settlers. A bloody battle followed which ended with the deaths of over 50 people including both parties’ leaders. In 1865, Brigham Young appointed David Prescott as first sheriff of Pima County after he won an election against incumbent Hiram Grant. Prescott Valley experienced some dramatic changes during Arizona's Gold Rush period (1859-1868). Businesses began to boom due to the discoveries of gold in these hillsides; however, this also brought about conflict between miners and supervisors. By 1868, most of the mining operations had stopped due to lack of resources or competition from other areas in Arizona and Nevada. However, a few small mines continued operating until 1870 when Proposition 10 forced them out of business by allowing residents to purchase land at low prices without contributing any money back into society. That same year saw another large gold find at Apache Pass just south of town; this helped spur development along Highway 66 as people rushed to find new sources of income while supplies lasted
