Prescott Valley is a small town in the Phoenix metropolitan area, located just northwest of downtown. The population was 10,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, AZ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first gun in Prescott Valley was an American shotgun manufactured by Winchester in 1892. The town's first store, a warehouse on First Street which opened in 1902, sold firearms and ammunition to residents and tourists alike. In 1907, Prescott Valley purchased its own post office from Tempe Township and began mail service from that location as well. Gun sales increased around this time as more people moved into the area and new businesses started up to serve them. By 1929, there were ten gun stores operating in Prescott Valley with over 1 million rounds of ammo sold annually! Firearms were also used for hunting during this time as well; several big game animals were killed within walking distance of the town’s core. In 1951, when Arizona became a state, Prescott Valley voted to become its own city and began planning for growth outside of its small nucleus. PRESCOTT VALLEY HISTORY from 1885 to 1930 In 1885, General George Boundedon Prescott established what is now known as Prescott Valley on the east side of Phoenix. At that time it was a remote and unincorporated region with no schools or businesses. General Prescott donated land to the community in order to start a school system which would provide education for local residents. In 1930, when Phoenix became a city, much of Prescott Valley became part of the city limits while certain portions are still considered part of rural Pima County today. As Phoenix grew and annexed more surrounding communities over time, some residents in Prescott Valley began to feel left out and neglected by their larger neighbor. They banded together and formed the Save Our Schools Committee in order to protest annexation proceedings by Phoenix without any input from their constituents! This committee successfully lobbied against annexation until 1914 when it disbanded due to lack of progress during those years. From then on until World War II whenPhoenix annexed more surrounding communities again-theSaveOur Schools Committee never stopped fighting for educational justice for all!
