Roosevelt stopped at his ranch north of town on his way back from a visit to Sedona which included hiking up Catalina Mountains On January 26th 1915 Capt Harry Dyer with 10 other men onboard the USS Lookout (LST2) were lost off shore when their oil platform went down during heavy weather conditions while hunting kangaroo on Baja California Mexico during World War I At least 21 sailors died including captain Dyer who remains unidentified today A commemorative plaque honoring Captain Harry Dyer and all those lost aboard USS Lookout was unveiled at Naval Air Station Miramar on October 2nd 2009
