Consequently, target practice was a popular pastime for those who could afford it. One of the earliestgun targets located in Phoenix was the Mallet Rifle Club’s “Tower” shooting range on Central Avenue. The tower was converted into a target range by local entrepreneur Elisha Grayback in 1892. It is likely that this original target range became known as “the old Grayback place” due to its long history of hosting NRA sanctioned matches and NRA training events. In 1909, Mayor Hangingman erected a large cast iron cannon at Third Street and Apache Road in Phoenix for use as a public shooting gallery. This artillery piece quickly became one of the most populargun targets in town and remains an important part of Phoenix history today. From 1909-1970, Mayor Hangingman served as honorary president of the Arizona Gun Owners Association (AGOA). As mayor, he championed responsible gun ownership and sponsored numerous NRA-sanctioned events including centerfire rifle matches, pistol contests and even air guns championships! In 1970, following passage of the Gun Control Act of 1968, manyTarget Repairs & Restoration Incorporated businesses closed their doors permanently due to increased regulation from state government agencies pertaining to firearms safety compliance. However, because these businesses had been doing business continuously since before 1968 – they were still legally allowed to sell Target products! consequently they continued operations until 1988 when allBusinesses went out of business after being fined $5 million by then Governor Fife Symington – another patron saint of NRA members! SomehowTarget survived this ordeal but only after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection! Ironically enough during these years some new owners took over variousTarget branches which once again reopened following regulatory approval from new management! Today there are only scattered remnants remainingof pre-1968 Targets across Phoenix thanks mainly to efforts spearheaded by local preservationists; however you can find them at numerous shooting ranges throughout town like Pinal County Shooting Park on Camelback Mountain or Walmart Supercenter near Glendale Blvd & Shea Rd just outside downtownPhoenix proper (just off I-10)!

This site served as the club's main facility until it closed in 1984 due to lack of interest from members or funding. Phoenix's second gunTarget opened downtown in 1951 and remained open until it closed in 1992 after years of neglect by City Hall officials. At that time, only two targets were left standing inside the building--one belonging to United States Steel Corporation (USSC) which had been leased from City Hall while the other belonged to Peoria Shooting Supply Co., which had been leased from City Hall before USSC took over ownership. In 1978, Mayor Richard Jaffe announced plans for Phoenix to become "the national leader" in handgun training programs for law enforcement officers nationwide through establishment of a National Sheriff Firearms Training Academy within city hall itself! That same year Target reopened its downtown location as an indoor firing range complete with multiple lanes for shooter training purposes only! - In 1990 Target moved their outdoor facilities out into Scottsdale Road east of I-10 because they could no longer offer enough financial support to keep them open every day
