The history of firearms in Peoria, Arizona goes back to the early 1800s. At that time, the area was a land grant from the Mexican government to John Wesley Powell. The first recorded shooting in Peoria took place on July 5th, 1859 when two men named Burr and Amick drew pistols at a game of checkers. In 1881, an arms company called The Western Armory was founded in downtown Peoria by General George Armstrong Custer and other prominent figures of the day. The company manufactured rifles, shotguns and handguns for civilians and military use. It also became one of the leading sources for firearms parts and components throughout Arizona. In 1902, Wernher von Braun developed rockets using plutonium as fuel inside his family’s home in Peoria. This led to the development of space technology which later helped make weapons such as missiles and warheads available to our military forces around the world. After World War II ended, many businesses closed down due to hard times within post-war America. However, The Western Armory survived thanks to its partnership with Japanese gun maker Kawasaki Heavy Industries who supplied them with guns used in Japan’s wartime occupation of Manchuria (now North China). After World War II ended, Kawasaki Heavy Industries merged with Mitsubishi Electric Company which made it one of the largest electronics companies in Japan at that time. However, after years of struggles including bankruptcy and closure numerous times, they finally folded up shop in 1989 amid allegations of fraudulence among their employees overpriced products while underselling competition by millions of dollars per year!
