One major issue facing the city right now is funding for infrastructure projects due to budget cuts brought about by Governor Doug Ducey. Although they are working hard to stay afloat financially, there are always projects that need to be put on hold due to lack of money or time-frame
Payson was founded by the Payson Paiute in 1887 as a trading post on the Pinal River. The town grew quickly, and in 1911 it became the seat of county government. The post office closed in 1951, but the population continued to grow until 1990 when it reached its present size.
