However, some small businesses still thrived during this time such as Checkerboard Weaver Shop which operated from 1921-1924; GULF PNEAGUARDS CO., LTD./ DBA ROCKY MOUNTAIN HAND CABLE TV SHOP opened for business on November 12th 1922; JOSE MARIA FIGUEROA & SON/GALVESTON CAFE reopened December 10th 1926; DON CARLOS REYES CLUB STARBUCKS opened March 16th 1927; CRUSADERS BANK/GALVESTON CAFE reopening July 15th 1928; HARVEY WILSON COMPANY reopening October 5th 1930 (later renamed HPHW CORPORATION). Due to these small businesses however most residents engaged in agriculture or petty trade which limited their access to technology or industry. In 1957 ranchers Jack Smithson and Connie Smithson bought 1/2 mile east of town along US 60 for $1 million dollars making it what is now known as Frontierland County Park. This land had been purchased from Mexico by United States military officials during World War II as part of Project Mogul which aimed to acquire land that could be used for airfields in southeastern Arizona Territory during war times. After World War I ended there were many families who decided to move back into Arizona because they could no longer find jobs outside of their home state during peacetime . In 1922-23 six families moved from Phoenix to Paradise Valley and started an agricultural business called Gorman Farms . From 1923 until 1929 three more families came from Phoenix and opened a grocery store at 9th Street and Central Avenue called Empire Grocery before selling everything they owned including their land to buy more land elsewhere around Prescott Valley . Over time these businesses grew larger but never really succeeded because they didn’t have enough customers or money available for expansion
