With Nederland's help, many new businesses were established in Oro Valley including Old Japanese Gardens restaurant which has been open since 1954 and now offers delivery service; True Value Hardware store opened its doors on Main Street in 1955; First National Bank opened its doors that year; Driscoll's Liquor Store opened its doors on Second Street; and Centennial Savings & Loan Association started operations that year with $5 million capitalization! On July 14th, 1959 Gordon Biersch Brewery announced plans to open their first brewery outside of North America at 2200 E McDowell Rd., just south of Oro Valley Village! Over time they grew into one of Phoenix' most well-known breweries with over 12 breweries now located throughout Arizona! At this point locals had started calling themselves "Gordons" because there were so many breweries popping up all over town! It wasn't until after World War II when things really started changing for residents of Oro Valley when electricity became available for lights and heating thanks to dams upstream! By 1955 nuclear power had become available too so farms no longer needed irrigation water from white sand loess beds below ground anymore! Farming then transitioned into other activities such as raising chickens or cows while people worked off their acres getting ready for productive seasons ahead! Oro valley experienced rapid growth during this time with more than 100 homes being built per month alone!! Many businesses along Second Street such as True Value Hardware continued success even through tough times during the Great Recession!! There have been several rounds of redevelopment over the years but much remains unchanged from those early days!!
