Nogales, Arizona is a city in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 26,577 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area and is the county seat for Pinal County. The first European to visit Nogales was Father Francisco Garces on November 5, 1769. He named it Nogales de la Cueva because of the high mountain range surrounding it. The town was founded by Juan Bautista Chaves on December 3, 1875 as a post office called Arizpe Viejo (Old Arizonian) after his home state of New Mexico. In 1912, Tucson Electric Light Company built the first electric light system in what would become Phoenix and Nogales were among its earliest customers. In 1928 Nogales became an incorporated city and between 1951 and 1957 it adopted a new form of government under which it became an unincorporated community ruled by elected officials with no mayor or council members. In February 1956 Tom Cochran succeeded to Mayor John Latten's seat but did not seek re-election so he could run for Congress instead; he served from 1959 until his death in office in 1984. Cochran had been mayor when Tucson Electric Light Company lost its power contract to AES Corporation which led to some social unrest that increased when newly constructed homes near the company's plant started getting electricity from private companies rather than from municipal providers such as AT&T who had guaranteed continuity of service through their contracts with municipally owned utilities like Tucson Electric Light Company (TULC). Cochran's successor as Mayor was Donny McDonald who ran unopposed in 1958 and 1960; however he vacated his office effective January 1 1961 due to term limits set by law before becoming Governor of Arizona two years later In 1966 McDonald moved into personal residence at 15th Avenue South in downtown Phoenix and effectively ended mayoral control over Nogale affairs except for ceremonial purposes until 1988 when then Mayor Phil Gordon took office following more public protests against planned demolition of old buildings adjacent to TULC's plant siteamazon Riverfront Park.) After leaving office Gordon turned over day-to-day management back to local elected officials until 2000 when City Manager Donny Martinez tookoffice effective January 1 2001He announced on October 2nd that he would not seek re-election due to poor health condition

Nogales is a census-designated place in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 6,849 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The name Nogales comes from the Nahuatl language word "nagual", meaning "a person who knows many things." The first white settlers in what is now Nogales were prospectors and traders who came to the region during the gold rush of 1849. In 1858, General James W. Woolley's forces invaded Pinal County and plundered much of it for treasure; after General Woolley's defeat at Peña Blanca Creek, Mexican troops retreated into central Arizona and abandoned Nogales until 1862 when Ulysses S. Grant captured Mexico City and effectively ended the Mexican–American War. In 1865, John Tappan arrived with his family from New York City to found Tappanforte Equestrian Center (later renamed Old Town Tucson). Named in honor of John Tappan (1793-1872), one of America's leading equestrians (), this center became an important symbol of Americanization of Central Arizona during the 19th century. The town began as a small farming community on the banks of Red River which formed its eastern border in 1840 and gradually grew as wagon traffic increased along the route that later became Route 66. In 1912, Harry Chandler founded Apache Junction near present day Goodyear Village on Interstate 10 adjacent to what was then Cochise County; he named it after his home ranch near Prescott Valley in Maricopa County where he had been born in 1893. After World War II many businesses closed due to competition from other cities within Phoenix; however, Apache Junction has remained an industrial center with a large variety of retail stores including furniture stores IHOP Pizza and Stop & Shop as well as Rexall Drugs . A fire destroyed most of downtown Apache Junction on September 4th 2003 - one year before Mohawk Casino opened there
