Most famously associated with this era are railroad construction projects which have shaped the demographics and neighborhoods around downtown Nogales for more than seventy years now; however, many other events and people significant to local history also occurred during this time including: John Wesley Powell’s 1913 exploration of southern Arizona; El Paso Daily Herald fire on November 15th 1914 which destroyed most of downtown El Paso; Pancho Villa's 1915 raid into Cochise County; campaigns against Yaqui Indians by both US Marshals Jens Ludwigsen and Joel Chandler Harris in 1917-1918; etc…
