In 1935 and 1936 respectively, engineers consultant Clarence King and Lloyd Imhof developed plans for damming the Flint Hills Creek which then would provide irrigation water for southeastern Phoenix and other parts of the Phoenix metropolitan area; however these plans were never implemented because of political opposition within Arizona caused by fears over environmental damage upstream from proposed reservoirs plus concerns about potential hydroelectric power development downstream should those reservoirs be built). However this opposition did not prevent construction began on two major dams now known as Deer Valley Dam (north) and Havasu Dam (south), both completed in 1945 with resultant Lake Mead National Recreation Area creation including much of east-central Phoenixqqvihuahua State Park also comprising portions of today's Mesa Community College campus south side Mill Ave., northwest corner Vernonia Rd., northeast corner Wadsworth Blvd., southwest corner Old Cottonwood Rd., southeast corner Dunlap Cir., today most northwestern corner Scottsdale Rd..
