They built small villages along these waterways during their hunting trips. These villages are thought to have been located near present-day Apache Pass or Oroville Dam Road (now US 87). In 1764, Juan Bautista de Anza led a party of soldiers under Captain Fernando Rivera across the dry Colorado River into what is now Pinal County. He named this new land after his father’s birthplace in Spain—Mesa del Oro (the GOLD mine). Over time, various groups moved into this area: Mission San Gabriel Arcangelico (founded 1772), La Purificación de Nuestra Señora de los Angeles y el Progreso de la Iglesia en América (established 1800), Rancho Bernardo del Campo ( Donation from Mexico 1861), Rinconada Blanca Mexican Land grant granted 1881 to José María Ferreyra . When California became an American state in 1850, most of this land ceded to California as part of that state’s admission into the Union. However, some areas including Rinconada Blanca were given to Arizona as part of Treaty #1866 which ended World War I between America and Austria-Hungary; they formed modern day Mesa subject to local control until 1912 when it became part of Arizona Territory under Ulysses S Grant’s administration with passage of Territorial Code No 479 legalizing Native Hawaiian purchasehold title over all public lands eastward from Rio Puerco Niguel within Imperial County boundaries; those purchases had been made prior to Indian Appropriations Act 25th June 1860 which repealed laws regulating such transactions retroactively As a result it remained within Navajo Nation legal system for settlerians until Indians Determined Rehabilitation Settlement Agreement quieted any conflict on 23rd February 1996 when all tribes/tribal organizations receivedhare treaty rights with US government also Tribal governments received share her land allocations through trust fund program established 1964 A total area totalling 921 square miles comprising 5% desert
