In 2003, the sheriff's office received a grant from the National Institute of Justice to purchase a more advanced soft gun case design. This new Soft Gun Case is made out of durable materials and features an armored handle for added protection while in use.

In 1928, when Arizona became an all-white state, MaricOPA passed a law establishing race discrimination as unconstitutional within the new state government which would forever be known as “the land that Grew Up” or “The Untamed West” according to some accounts because it would persist even after federalization (see: Arizona Constitution). Today, there are nearly 2 million people living in Maricopa County with almost equal proportions being white (94%) and Hispanic (6%).
